  • Comfort Kits

When we transition someone into their own home, they often don’t have everything they need and must wait weeks to get those supplies. It can be challenging for them if they don’t have a TV to watch, a book to read, or crafts/games to keep themselves busy during that period. Additionally, with the current COVID-19 pandemic, our on-site supportive housing residents (and shelter residents) have been left with fewer options to keep themselves busy and enjoy their free time. It has been a tremendous challenge for our residents who are used to spending their time visiting friends and family as well as visiting congregate community spaces that are no longer available. As human beings, we all deserve to relax and entertain ourselves as we navigate life. Help out our residents by providing with them Comfort Kits! Please assemble the following items in bags, backpacks, tupperware containers, or gallon Ziploc bags. Adult-focused Comfort Kits: Adult coloring books Journal or notebook Gift cards (e.g., coffee shop, grocery store, etc.) Art Supplies such as... Sketchbooks, watercolor or other painting supplies, colored pencils, markers, etc. LED battery-operated candles ( example) Crosswords, sudoku, or word puzzles Bath bomb or bath salts (must be new and unopened) Chocolates or candy (must be new and unopened) Origami kit Sewing kit Card game Board game Puzzles (500 piece or less preferred) Sculptors clay set Books (e.g., related to self care or self growth) Pre-teen and older youth-focused Comfort Kits: Gift cards (e.g., Target, clothing stores, game stores, etc.) Headphones/Earbuds Art Supplies such as... • US TEEN penpals needed for Kenyan teens!!

Marafiki Penpal Program - SO IMPORTANT!! Marifiki means "friend" in Swahili. In 2020, NTS launched our penpal program to match our Kenyan students with U.S. high school students. Everyone exchanges letters each month. It's hard to believe in this hyper-connected world but for the NTS students, this is their first contact with a peer outside of Kenya! It’s also a chance to practice both written and spoken English, and to learn about another culture. We are expanding the program and seek 10 new penpals from the United States who will begin NOW. You must commit to a minimum of a year and a half, writing monthly. Every month, your penpal will send you a letter and then you will write back. Each letter is guided by an NTS staff member, so you'll have plenty of support. Students already in the program have been writing for nearly 2 years, watching their Kenyan penpals grow as their English skills improve. Who We Are NTS a not-for-profit 3-year vocational school located in the Nyamboyo Village in southwestern Kenya. We provide professional, technical education to the economically disadvantaged teens and young adults of the community. Our students are ages 14-20 and all have family histories of poverty, lack of education and job opportunities, and chronic food insecurity. At NTS, they receive professional vocational training, 3 meals a day to combat hunger and malnutrition, English-language classes, computer training, and daily COVID-safe sports activities. Our students thrive professionally, physically, and psychologically.

We conduct this research with the goal of allowing people to make informed decisions about their health and to increase access to healthy stress-coping alternatives. These healthy coping mechanisms can reduce reliance on harmful self-medication practices such as alcohol abuse or behavior likely to lead to opioid addiction. Value Proposition: Tinctures, teas and powders from herbal medicine combinations can represent better risk/reward ratios Through citizen science and data science over time we have the aspirational goal to meet and exceed evidence parity with regards to evidence of effectiveness for herbal medicines for stress & anxiety compared with pharmaceuticals. Staffing Specialist Volunteer, Forest Fire Prevention Derivatives, CrowdDoing Staffing Specialist Volunteer, Forest Fire Prevention Derivatives, CrowdDoing to provide accurate and data based information on company’s profitability, solvency, stability and liquidity. You will research and analyze financial information to help company make well informed decisions, write reports and monitor financial movements.Forest Fire Prevention Derivatives, CrowdDoing, Volunteer Financial Analyst See more detailed background on CrowdDoing's forest fire prevention derivatives https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dBp_HUr-tCCNaeGoSDfPrirRPbaoV3X4/view?usp=sharing Forest Fire Risk Prevention Derivatives in Northern California Bobby Fishkin, lead author In 2018, Sacramento was named the "the Most Polluted City on Earth" due to "smoke from Camp Fire," This proposal aims to prevent that from happening again through adopting a systemic approach and collaborating with stakeholders to actively prevent future such events. The insurance industry, along with institutional chief risk officers, have begun to recognize the importance of moving from "loss compensation to loss prevention." CrowdDoing and Project Heather propose launching a prevention derivative with two new stakeholders: (a) contingent payers who pay in proportion to the reduction in risk, and (b) impact investors who finance social innovations in which their return is similarly proportional to the reduction in risk. It will build on existing precedents for contingent contracts involving social- innovation-based risk prevention. Financial Analyst Volunteer, Forest Fire Prevention Derivatives, CrowdDoing A spectrum of forest fire risk prevention approaches are available: from creative new social innovations to well-established interventions. The forest fire risk prevention derivative would first survey existing forest fire prevention interventions in Greater Sacramento with an eye towards which ones might be suitable to support and expand. It would then review global social innovations that might be relevant to Northern California to determine which to replicate. Entities involved in risk management and risk securitisation, from insurers to reinsurers to retrocessionaires, ought to welcome the chance to share liability proportionally through a commons of prevention innovations. The prevention derivative can expand as more institutions and individuals join as contingent payers and impact investors in order prevent a larger portion of collective risk . Payments by private and public institutions to support prevention derivatives can be in-kind, through services, and/or financial. • Caregiver for a temporary gig (4-6 months) starting in Hawaii & primarily at Stanford University

We are looking for 2 volunteers to share the responsibility for taking care of our most important & valuable employee, financier & director of this charity. For without him this charity will potentially fall apart. Your journey will start with a trip to Hawaii for both volunteers while we notify Stanford University of 2 caregivers capable & willing to assist. The insurance will only pay for caregivers to be flown from Hawaii with the patient. They will both be housed & fed the entire time. The ability to fundraise for any monies needed by the volunteers are assisted by several organizations. This will be the only way to be financially compensated during our journey. The timeframe is 4-6 months. Maybe a month in Hawaii, unknown time at Stanford University waiting for a heart. 2 weeks in the hospital. 3 months recovery in California before the patient will be allowed to travel again. While in Hawaii you will be given the ability to completely vacation, visit all the tourist attractions, visit every single beach. You'll have access to a 2022 Toyota 4Runner, 2018 Tesla 3, living in a highrise condo overlooking the ocean (view included). 2 brand new jet skis for ocean activities. A scooter/motorcycle & eBikes. You'll have the opportunity to be trained to fully run this organization, but only if you so choose. Running the charity is secondary to your primary responsibility of caregiving. Your choice to move to Hawaii after the success or failure of the transplant will be an opportunity you'll be given to include the same housing, same opportunities as your pre-surgery vacation. For this return vacation to Hawaii you'll need to agree to be trained to operate this organization. After your arrival in Hawaii & notice that available caregivers are present, then the insurance will start making plans to relocate all parties involved to a suitable housing location as close as possible to Stanford University Hospital. There the hospital staff will fully train all individuals how to fully take care of the patient. After surgery the patient remains in the hospital for approximately 2 weeks During this time the patient should be able to regain his ability to use a bathroom on his own & the responsibility of wiping his butt will not fall on the volunteers responsibility. Your biggest responsibility will be providing medications on a strict schedule. Taught what to look for in the patient, like signs of infection. The patient was one of the 1st people in America to purchase (2-2-2020) & use (continually) a face mask. It's very important that the prospective volunteers actively follow COVID responsible COVID behaviors, like masking up around others, sanitizing, and wearing a mask in public. Exceptions will be when at home because we need to trust you'll practice safe COVID protocols while in public. We understand the risk of COVID is not dangerous for people, unless the person takes specific medications which restrict COVID patients from utilizing post COVID medication, PLAXOVID. This opportunity is an equal opportunity employment opportunity. We are looking for male or female. Any pronoun choice. Any race. Any age. Any sexual orientation. This will be a sexual harrasment free zone.

From area farms, markets to food banks, pantriesKansas City, MO 64111
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

At After the Harvest, we glean excess produce from farm fields, but also pick up already harvested excess produce from farms, farm stands and farmers’ markets and deliver it to food banks (like Harvesters) and pantries to feed hungry people. We also need lead volunteers who will "Adopt-a-Market" for the season on a rotating schedule. (For example, pick-up at City Market every 1st and 3rd Sunday, or pick-up at Overland Park Farmers' Market every 2nd Saturday). Each Lead Produce Rescue Driver will receive special training and packaging at the beginning of the season. Additional one-time volunteers will be matched with a Lead Produce Rescue Driver to help with pick-up and delivery to nearby food agencies. We currently pick up at the following Farmers Markets through October: Brookside, Overland Park City Market, Lenexa, Parkville, Lee's Summit, and Unity Village. If you have a vehicle that can haul produce, and you have a heart to help those in need...ATH can sure use your help! Pick up donated produce every week or periodically from farms, markets and distributors. Bring the kids and make the experience come full circle by delivering to food banks, pantries, shelters and community kitchens in the Greater Kansas City area. Other opportunities: Your organization/group wants to glean? Reserve your date now. You want to lead a gleaning? We always need field supervisors. You want us to come speak to your organization? We’d love to meet you! After the Harvest has a very small staff, so we only succeed because of volunteers like you! Thanks so much for helping rescue fresh, nutritious produce to feed those in need.

It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

Heart of America Humane Society hosts a Dog Adoption Event most Saturdays at PetSmart Olathe (119th & Strang Line) from Noon to 3 pm. The event is open to the public during those hours. We have a volunteer van driver (good driving record required) that drives to Kansas City KS Animal Services to transport the dogs from the shelter to PetSmart. While the dogs are being transported, there are volunteers setting up the adoption event at PetSmart, which involves setting up tables, kennels, and supplies used during the event. We would like everyone volunteering for the event to arrive around 11:45 am to assist with unloading the dogs when the van arrives. Then during the event, you will work with a dog. Get to know them, train them on basic commands, spoil them rotten, and talk with prospective adopters about your dog. At the end of the event, those dogs that were not adopted are transported back to the shelter and we ask that the volunteers assist in taking down the tables, kennels, etc. The first Saturday that you volunteer we ask that you come 30-45 minutes early to fill out paperwork and have a short training/orientation. We look forward to hearing from you. We welcome everyone, but if you are under 18 you must be accompanied by a parent. If you are interested in assisting with this or any of our volunteer opportunities, please copy and paste the link that follows into your browser and complete our online Volunteer Interest Form. Lasagna Love is a global movement with thousands of people cooking and delivering meals to families in their communities. What we do is simple: we feed families, spread kindness, and strengthen communities. Our mission is not only to help address the incredible rise in food insecurity among families but also to provide a simple act of love and kindness during this time full of uncertainty and stress. Lasagna Love matches neighbors who can provide a meal with a neighbor who needs a little help. You can decide how often you participate - once a month, multiple lasagnas weekly, or somewhere in between. You decide how far you can drive to deliver a meal, and if you can accommodate special diets like vegetarian or gluten free. The Lasagna Love Team does the best to match you with a neighbor in need. We also provide online trainings to help you get started and drop off meals contact free, recipes if you are looking for inspiration, and any other support you need. If you are looking for a flexible volunteer opportunity, or a way for your family to volunteer together to make a meal for a neighbor in need, this is a great opportunity to spread some kindness.
