Mission Statement
Our mission is to improve third grade literacy by mobilizing community volunteers to read one-to-one with children in Kansas City-area classrooms on a weekly basis.
Description
Lead to Read KC is dedicated to improving the basic literacy skills of children in our urban core. Why? Because fewer than half of Kansas City, Missouri third graders are reading on grade level. Launched in 2011, Lead to Read KC has grown into Kansas City’s largest literacy volunteer corps, connecting nearly 1,100 elementary students with adult Reading Mentors across the metropolitan area each week.

Highly meaningful experience. Each student is so happy spending 1-to-1 time with their Reading Mentor -- and they're learning while relating!
Also, Lead to Read has an easy access ramp! No nights or weekends and it's the highlight of my busy week. Great mission, great organization!
