Deliver patient breakfast trays and provide companionship to patients in the peaceful environment of our inpatient facility in South Kansas City. Volunteers are needed for Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday mornings for a shift which begins at 7:45am and usually ends by 9:00am. Our chef prepares meals and places them on trays inside a rolling food-service cart. Volunteers deliver trays to patients who are eating and get the patients set up to begin eating. You may wish to do a few other things--check vases of flowers, tidy family areas, etc.--before checking to see how patients are doing. Finally, you'll return trays to the kitchen and break them down before leaving. This can be a very rewarding activity, providing meaningful interaction with patients and families. We are looking for quilters who are interested in donating to the NorthCare and Kansas City Hospice Houses. Quilts will be used to brighten patient rooms and to make family members and patients feel more at home during their stay at our hospice houses. Family members may take the quilt home with them as a lasting treasure after their loved one has passed. Must be made of new materials and be machine washable. Preferred size is approximately 4’ x 5’. Patriotic Quilts: We are also always looking for individuals or groups who like to make and donate patriotic quilts for our Veterans. Each Veteran patient is presented with a quilt and a certificate thanking them for their service. Sometimes fabric is donated to us, and we can pass it along to quilters willing to support our program.

We Honor Veterans is a National Hospice and Palliative Care program in which Kansas City Hospice and NorthCare Hospice is a proud partner. The purpose of this program is to continue to honor our Veterans at the end of their lives. The We Honor Veterans Program involves the education of our staff and the community, special events honoring our Veterans for their service, and volunteering to serve our Veteran men and women. Kansas City Hospice and NorthCare Hospice offers a Veteran to Veteran volunteer program in which Veterans can serve in a multitude of ways; friendly patient visits, life review through our Lifetime Legacy Video program, making keepsake quilts for patients and their families, help with light housekeeping, and phone calls of support. Volunteers may also assist in Veterans Day services and other special recognition events throughout the year.

Local, nonprofit Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care (kchospice.org) is looking for compassionate volunteers to provide a special service for patients. Most of our patients can’t leave their home, nursing facility, or hospice house. We have a great need for licensed cosmetologists willing to donate just a little of their time (perhaps an hour or two per month) to cut hair in the patient’s residence. Whenever possible, we match volunteers with patients in their geographical area. You also have full flexibility to schedule with the patient and family when it's convenient for you. A haircut can make you feel amazing and brighten your day, and hospice patients really need that. Please help us provide a great service (and a little pampering!) to a very grateful person and their loved ones.

Our goal at Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care is to ensure that our patients remain comfortable in their final months. Volunteer massage therapists can help by providing light, stress-relieving massage for homebound patients or those in long-term care facilities or hospice houses. We try to match volunteers with patients in their preferred geographical areas, but we appreciate if you are also willing to occasionally travel to more distant areas if the need arises. The gift of your time and skill could mean so much to a patient and their grateful caregiver.
