Mission Statement

The Heart of America Humane Society is committed to promote kindness to animals, the prevention of cruelty to animals, the extension of humane education, the encouragement of spay/neuter programs among individual pet owners and animal shelters, and the encouragement of programs designed to adopt animals held at approved animal shelters to approved members of the public.

Description

The Heart of America Humane Society is a well-established and registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working to place animals into permanent homes. Without a facility or paid staff, HAHS relies on its all-volunteer network of caring individuals to carry out its mission.

Many of our animals are cared for temporarily in the "foster homes" of volunteers. This gives us the ability to build a history with them, observing and evaluating their behavior and traits outside of an intimidating shelter environment. That foster knowledge helps create a better match between an animal's personality and the home situation of a new owner.

The Heart of America Humane Society partners with two local animal shelters, the Lee's Summit Animal Shelter (MO) and the Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter (Ottawa, KS), to manage a spay/neuter program and to increase pet adoptions into permanent homes.

In addition to our cooperative partnerships with the Bea Martin Peck Shelter in Ottawa Kansas and the Lee's Summit Municipal Shelter , HAHS is also a member of another animal support organization, No More Homeless Pets in Kansas City .
