Description

Mount Carmel Redevelopment Corporation (MCRC) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) community development corporation. The organization has taken as its mission field the restructuring of the urban core of northeast Kansas City, Kansas. Historically, blight, deteriorating infrastructures, abandoned housing, high crime rates, and declining population is what residents of the Mount Carmel neighborhood experience every day. The organization affirms its belief that every person is entitled to the fulfillment of their basic human needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and an adequate quality of life. This belief is central to the programs and services MCRC provides which includes building and managing transitional housing units, and low-moderate income housing units for seniors. MCRC also manages the Willhelmina Gill Center, which provides case management services to assist the homeless, a free hot-meal to 300-500 people daily, and free clothing. MCRC's newest endeavor is to reduce recidivism rates in Wyandotte County through focusing on Re-Entry. To do this MCRC has partnered with the statewide initiative Mentoring4Success, which helps men and women transitioning from prison to community by providing them mentoring services.
