The ideal intern should be interested in pursuing a career in social service nonprofit work. The Intern will serve as a "right arm" by preparing for meetings, attending meetings, supporting corporate public & media relations and corporate correspondence, budget management, personnel management, etc. BLACK’s Senior Leadership will devote considerable energy to transferring knowledge to the intern. The Intern will support the office of a Program Director in directing the daily operations for the organization, community partnership, program and services. The Intern will report to the Director of Operations, Associate Director and Executive Director. Responsibilities Prepare briefings on prospective partners or agencies in advance of meetings Participate in team and/or departmental meetings, take notes, summarize minutes Attend meetings with funders, politicians, clergy, nonprofit leaders, and community partners support general office duties such as monthly budget reconciliations, board reports, correspondence, database management, and filings lead and/or support fundraising efforts for the organization conduct briefings with Core Team members conduct/participate in Core Team training and In-Service Days monitor and update Project Management Software for assignments & projects oversee website, blogs and social media sites to encourage awareness of BLACK's events and mission assist Associate Director with assignments, projects and tasks look for and suggest ways to make internal operations more efficient and productive work with the various initiative areas to develop outcome measures and community impact assessments other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations, Associate Director, Executive Director. We operate in multiple initiative areas including: (1)Office of Family And Community Engagement, (2) Social Justice, (3) Health & Wellness. (4) Violence Prevention. At this stage in the organization’s development, we are moving out of the "frontier" stage and into operationalizing the organization. This means moving from pure vision and heart into systems, structures, and measurements. The emphasis on this internship is learning day-to-day nonprofit management and in studying the true impact of this organization on the community. Qualifications: Students pursuing or possessing a Bachelors degree or Master’s degree in Administration or related field. Intern should be adept with Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Web research and be skilled at create forms, or instruments that help to track goals, outcomes, and financials. Excellent oral, written, and communication/presentation skills - Comfortable talking with and interacting with others Must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, and carry your own liability insurance. Ability to work well with diverse groups of people Candidates must live in the United States and preferably in the Chicagoland area.

The Program Director is responsible for overseeing programs for the Office of Family And Community Engagement (FACE) within the organization. Creates and revises programs, develops policies and guidelines, recruits and trains staff, with fundraising chair raises funds, and ensures compliance with government relations. Primary responsibilities Create and supervise programs. Plan and launch fundraising events to support programs. Devise budgets and ensure the budget is adhered to throughout the fiscal year. Reach out to the community for volunteers and support. Contribute to writing grant proposals for program funds. Coordinate all activities of the program. Supervise, recruit, and train program staff. Monitor the effectiveness and results of the program and plan adjustments. Ensure compliance with all government relations. Attend community events to represent the program Identify contacts, and perform direct/ongoing outreach efforts with community organizations, businesses, churches, schools, hospitals, healthcare providers, and government officials for the purpose of enlisting them in the Safety Net's goal of enhancing the quality of life within families. The Director would not only inform community "players" of the existence of the Office of Family And Community Engagement and its mission and services, he/she would be responsible for actively following-up with contacts and reporting back to the Board. These ongoing outreach efforts are designed to encourage participants to take specific measures within their own organizations that would contribute significantly to keeping children at home safely. All efforts are aimed at keeping families out of court and children out of the child welfare system. The Director will need to attend mandatory monthly committee meetings to provide the group with updates on recent outreach efforts and to assist with the identification of community "players". .Instruction, education and motivating students toward the goal of post-secondary education. Maintain excellent record-keeping in the form of client files, reports, documented casework, program attendance, etc. Booking and coordination of family visits Receive family donations and payments from non subsidized families for services. Works closely with Site Coordinator on all aspects of position and duties. Performs other duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator. Associate Program Director (APD) will have a role in designing, implementing, and managing programs to bring about social change and equality for vulnerable and marginalized African-American populations. Develop programs and initiatives advocating on behalf of victims and marginalized populations for their rights to services and justice The Associate Director should have skills in program development, management, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation, research and analysis, and more. The APD will often work with local organizations and community partners to implement and run the programs their organization is putting in place. The APD should have some skills in research and analysis, as well as a working knowledge of law and policy within the region in which they serve. Responsible for keeping up with changes and trends in economics, social concerns, politics, and other relevant events so they can recommend and influence policy in the best way possible for the focus area. Program initiatives work towards social justice and human rights in the most hands-on approach. They work directly with the people to help them connect to services they need and to help build communities through social and development programs. Supervises personnel who generally work at the local or state levels with non-governmental organizations or local government agencies, field officers in international organizations work. The APD must have a passion for working directly with people and must have great communication skills. Qualifications: APD typically requires a degree in social justice, human rights, international development, or another related field. Between 3 and 10 years of work experience, depending on the management level the job requires. The APD should have skills in statistics, management, budgeting, as well as program design and development. Candidates must live in the United States and preferably in the Chicagoland area.
