Are you interested in grocery shopping or taking a disabled Senior or Veteran to a medical appointment or to their Covid Vaccine? Can you spare a few hours every other week? You will be able to make your own schedule. If so, this volunteer opportunity is perfect for you! Our mission is to provide free door-through-door transportation to seniors and veterans who need escorted rides with compassionate volunteer drivers in Contra Costa County. Our goal is to give seniors and veterans the ability and dignity to age in place with transportation and referral resources. Our volunteers take people to medical appointment and we grocery shop for individuals who are disabled seniors and veterans who are living in their own homes. Our goal is to give seniors and veterans the ability and dignity to age in place with transportation and referral resources. We are significantly increasing our clients’ opportunities for healthy aging by providing our services to them, especially escorted rides to obtain the clinical care they need, as well as the basic necessities of life. As a result, our clients experience improved health status through access to preventative health care, medical, mental health, dental appointments, surgery, prescribed medications, and proper nutrition along with exercise. Rides 4 Veterans Our mission is to provide free door-through-door transportation to seniors and veterans who need escorted rides with compassionate volunteer drivers in Contra Costa County. Our goal is to give seniors and veterans the ability and dignity to age in place with transportation and referral resources. Need Rides? Qualifications for Rides 4 Veterans clients: Honorable Discharge Live in Contra Costa County. Able to walk with the aid of a cane, walker, knee scooter, crutches, or elbow assistance. Requires escorted, door-through-door assistance. Able to call in to request rides. Unable to use other forms of transportation for medical or dental care and basic necessities. Requirements for Rides 4 Veterans volunteer drivers: Be a caring, mature individual (veteran a plus) who is willing and able to provide transportation to an ambulatory veteran who can no longer drive. Age 25 - 75 with a current driver’s license. Excellent driving record and crime free background. Own or have access to a reliable, safe vehicle that is registered and insured. Participate in a three hour training class before giving first ride. If you meet all of these requirements, come join our team and find out what a difference you can make in another person’s life. The Rides for Seniors and Veterans programs is looking for caring, mature individuals between the ages of 25-75 who are willing to provide one-on-one transportation in their own private car to an ambulatory senior who can no longer drive. These rides are primarily for basic necessities such as medical care, Covid-19 vaccine shots, dental and grocery shopping trips.
