Dog Adoption Event Volunteer - PetSmart Lee's Summit
ORGANIZATION: Heart of America Humane Society
Please visit the new page to apply.
Heart of America Humane Society hosts a Dog Adoption Event most Saturdays at PetSmart Lee’s Summit (920 NE Sam Walton Lane) from Noon to 3 pm. The event is open to the public during those hours. We have a volunteer van driver (good driving record required) that drives to to the Lee’s Summit Animal Shelter and then drives our van and transports the dogs from the shelter to PetSmart. While the dogs are being transported, there are volunteers setting up the adoption event at PetSmart, which involves setting up tables, kennels, and supplies used during the event. We would like everyone volunteering for the event to arrive around 11:45 am to assist with unloading the dogs when the van arrives. Then during the event, you will work with a dog. Get to know them, train them on basic commands, spoil them rotten, and talk with prospective adopters about your dog. At the end of the event, those dogs that were not adopted are transported back to the shelter and we ask that the volunteers assist in taking down the tables, kennels, etc. If you are interested in assisting with any of these volunteer opportunities, please copy the link that follows and complete the online form.

Mission Statement
Founded in 1992, the Heart of America Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. It is entirely volunteer-run. Heart of America Humane Society doesn’t run a shelter; instead, the dedicated volunteers partner with two Kansas City area shelters to help their dogs and cats find their forever homes.
Description
Heart of America Humane Society is a 100% volunteer organization working to find good homes for animals. We do not have a shelter of our own, instead we have created a cooperative partnership with the Lee’s Summit Municipal Animal Shelter and Kansas City Kansas Animal Services. We have adoption events most Saturdays at PetSmart Olathe, PetSmart Overland Park, and PetSmart Lee’s Summit.
In addition to working with local shelters, we also have a network of volunteer foster homes. Fostering gives us the opportunity to observe and evaluate an animal’s behavior and traits outside of the intimidating shelter environment. That foster knowledge helps us create a much better match between an animal’s personality and their new human(s).
