  • Comfort Kits

When we transition someone into their own home, they often don’t have everything they need and must wait weeks to get those supplies. It can be challenging for them if they don’t have a TV to watch, a book to read, or crafts/games to keep themselves busy during that period. Additionally, with the current COVID-19 pandemic, our on-site supportive housing residents (and shelter residents) have been left with fewer options to keep themselves busy and enjoy their free time. It has been a tremendous challenge for our residents who are used to spending their time visiting friends and family as well as visiting congregate community spaces that are no longer available. As human beings, we all deserve to relax and entertain ourselves as we navigate life. Help out our residents by providing with them Comfort Kits! Please assemble the following items in bags, backpacks, tupperware containers, or gallon Ziploc bags. Adult-focused Comfort Kits: Adult coloring books Journal or notebook Gift cards (e.g., coffee shop, grocery store, etc.) Art Supplies such as... Sketchbooks, watercolor or other painting supplies, colored pencils, markers, etc. LED battery-operated candles ( example) Crosswords, sudoku, or word puzzles Bath bomb or bath salts (must be new and unopened) Chocolates or candy (must be new and unopened) Origami kit Sewing kit Card game Board game Puzzles (500 piece or less preferred) Sculptors clay set Books (e.g., related to self care or self growth) Pre-teen and older youth-focused Comfort Kits: Gift cards (e.g., Target, clothing stores, game stores, etc.) Headphones/Earbuds Art Supplies such as... • US TEEN penpals needed for Kenyan teens!!

Marafiki Penpal Program - SO IMPORTANT!! Marifiki means "friend" in Swahili. In 2020, NTS launched our penpal program to match our Kenyan students with U.S. high school students. Everyone exchanges letters each month. It's hard to believe in this hyper-connected world but for the NTS students, this is their first contact with a peer outside of Kenya! It’s also a chance to practice both written and spoken English, and to learn about another culture. We are expanding the program and seek 10 new penpals from the United States who will begin NOW. You must commit to a minimum of a year and a half, writing monthly. Every month, your penpal will send you a letter and then you will write back. Each letter is guided by an NTS staff member, so you'll have plenty of support. Students already in the program have been writing for nearly 2 years, watching their Kenyan penpals grow as their English skills improve. Who We Are NTS a not-for-profit 3-year vocational school located in the Nyamboyo Village in southwestern Kenya. We provide professional, technical education to the economically disadvantaged teens and young adults of the community. Our students are ages 14-20 and all have family histories of poverty, lack of education and job opportunities, and chronic food insecurity. At NTS, they receive professional vocational training, 3 meals a day to combat hunger and malnutrition, English-language classes, computer training, and daily COVID-safe sports activities. Our students thrive professionally, physically, and psychologically.

We do so by analyzing scientific research and clinical evidence, gathering new evidence through data science and citizen science, and recommending to individuals optimal combinations of teas, tinctures, and powders that can be used to achieve each individual's mental health goals. We conduct this research with the goal of allowing people to make informed decisions about their health and to increase access to healthy stress-coping alternatives. These healthy coping mechanisms can reduce reliance on harmful self-medication practices such as alcohol abuse or behavior likely to lead to opioid addiction. Value Proposition: Tinctures, teas and powders from herbal medicine combinations can represent better risk/reward ratios Through citizen science and data science over time we have the aspirational goal to meet and exceed evidence parity with regards to evidence of effectiveness for herbal medicines for stress & anxiety compared with pharmaceuticals. That mission is attractive for people to participate in as its an opportunity for global collaboration to create increasingly usable natural medicine for stress and anxiety. It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

Opening a birthday giving chapter is easy, fun, and a great way to give back to the community! Here's how it works: 1. We schedule a video call with you to explain how the process works. 2. Our first choice is to find a Salvation Army location (or another organization that is willing to pick up the birthday bags from your house) that is geographically close to where you live. 3. We contact the Salvation Army (or another organization that is willing to pick up the birthday bags from your house) and explain The Birthday Giving Program's mission. This organization should be able to pick up the birthday bags from your house. 4. You order the birthday bag supplies off of Amazon or another online store and have the gifts shipped to your house. Each birthday bag costs between $5 and $10, depending on how many gifts you decide to put in the bag. Your goal is to provide 10 birthday bags to the organization each month. Each birthday bag includes the same gift items, which will go to kids of a specific age group! 5. Once you have packed the birthday bags, you contact the organization and they pick up the birthday bags from your house! If you are interested in serving the senior citizen or veterans division let us know and we can find an organization to connect you with!

Hospice volunteers give their time and talents to help the patients and families served by Constellation Health Services. Volunteers perform many important duties. Whether providing companionship in a patient’s home or facility, volunteers play a vital role that enables the hospice to more fully meet the community’s needs. Volunteers provide companionship to both the patient and family caregiver. They are a caring, friendly face for conversation, reading, playing games, watching TV, listening to music, and sharing stories. Volunteer visits may also offer respite to the family caregiver, who can take a break from caregiving while the volunteer is visiting. Constellation patient visit volunteers need not have any special abilities, all we ask is for reliability and compassion. However, we are open to trained Reiki Masters, pet therapists, musicians, etc. Masks, hand sanitizer, and other PPD provided.

Lasagna Love matches neighbors who can provide a meal with a neighbor who needs a little help. You can decide how often you participate - once a month, multiple lasagnas weekly, or somewhere in between. You decide how far you can drive to deliver a meal, and if you can accommodate special diets like vegetarian or gluten free. The Lasagna Love Team does the best to match you with a neighbor in need. We also provide online trainings to help you get started and drop off meals contact free, recipes if you are looking for inspiration, and any other support you need. If you are looking for a flexible volunteer opportunity, or a way for your family to volunteer together to make a meal for a neighbor in need, this is a great opportunity to spread some kindness.
