Community food garden volunteers

Do you love to garden and help provide fresh food to people in need? Open Doors could really use your help as part of our community garden team! Thanks to generous donations, we have raised garden beds that grow vegetables and herbs for Open Doors' kitchen and pantry. We could use your help to make a plan for seasonal planting, plant and maintain the garden, and pick vegetables when they're ripe and ready. It's a great way to give back without having to be available during specific hours. We also welcome donations of fresh produce from your own garden!

After School Buddies - volunteers needed!

Help make a difference in the lives of kids dealing with homelessness and poverty! Open Doors' After School Buddies program is looking for adult and high school volunteers to provide homework help and enrichment activities during the 2023/2024 academic year. We ask that volunteers commit to at least two afternoons a month (Tuesdays and Thursdays) through the end of the school year. Requirements To become a volunteer in the After School Buddies program, volunteers must complete an application and necessary background checks. Volunteers will work with Open Doors staff and current After School Buddies volunteers.

Community closet dropoff day volunteers

Do you love helping people and have some free time to give during the day? The Open Doors community closet provides free clothing, shoes, and other necessities to people in need. Our donation dropoff days are on the last Tuesday of each month from 1pm to 3pm and we could use your help! As a volunteer, you'll help bring in and organize clothing and other necessities that donors drop off. Everyone who volunteers at Open Doors does need to wear a mask and follow health and safety rules; we have masks if you don’t have one available.

Pantry volunteers

If you want to help people in need and have some time to give during the week, it would make such a difference to people who come to our pantry for help! Sign up directly and learn about all of our volunteer opportunities at https://opendoorsct.galaxydigital.com. Pantry volunteers work with our kitchen supervisor to help end hunger in our community. As a volunteer, you'll help people find the items they need for themselves and their families as part of our grocery pantry program. You'll also help restock shelves and organize the pantry There's a particular need for volunteers who speak Spanish or Haitian Creole, from basic skills to fluent speakers. We're looking for volunteers on weekdays (Monday through Friday), 9:30am to 11:30am. Gracias! Mèsi!
