Bereavement Volunteer Be a supportive presence to those who have lost loved ones. Make bereavement support phone calls or in-person visits as directed by bereavement staff. Phone calls can be made from a volunteer’s home. Additional eight hours of Bereavement Support training is required after completion of Patient and Family Support Training. Volunteer Orientation is a four-hour training session for individuals interested in learning more about Empath Health’s volunteer opportunities. Patient/Family Support Training consists twelve hours of training for individuals interested in providing caring support to Suncoast Hospice patients and families. Many people feel comforted knowing they, or a loved one, will not be alone at the end of life. You can help by providing a reassuring presence at the bedside in the final hours/days of a patient's life by becoming a volunteer Transitions Companion. Simple ways you can help - Hold the patient's hand, read to them, play music, or just sit quietly and be a comforting presence. If family and/or caregivers are present, you can help support them in many meaningful ways from answering phones to providing guidance. Help patients have the most compassionate end-of-life experience possible by being with them in their final moments. It is an honor to have that intimate experience. The 2.5 hour Transitions Companion Training is highly encouraged, after completion of Empath Health Volunteer Orientation and Patient & Family Support. Volunteer Orientation is a four-hour training session for individuals interested in learning more about Empath Health’s volunteer opportunities. Patient/Family Support Training consists of 12 hours of training for individuals interested in providing caring support to Suncoast Hospice patients and families. Palliative Arts Volunteer Patient and Family Support volunteers comfort patients by providing holistic services in the following modalities: Pet Visits - The use of pets to provide comfort, peace and well-being. Pets must be evaluated and certified by an approved certification organization. Some breed exclusions apply. Guided Meditation - The use of guided meditation helps to focus and clear the mind using a combination of mental and physical techniques. Aromatherapy - The use of essential oils to promote health of the body, mind and spirit. Aromatherapy training required. Reiki - The use of energy therapy techniques to promote relaxation, comfort and create a sense of peacefulness. Reiki training offered for Patient and Family Support and Bereavement Support volunteers. Caring Touch- The use of gentle massage techniques designed to help promote deep relaxation and to promote relief from pain/discomfort. Licensed Massage Therapy - The use of hands-on techniques delivered by Florida licensed massage therapists to promote relaxation and reduce pain. Music - The use of music as a tool, gift or opportunity to bring peach and comfort. If you enjoy interacting with people and supporting them along their healthcare journey - this is the volunteer opportunity for you. Patient and Family Support - Provide support to patients and their families though companionship, errand running, respite, and other special activities. Volunteers can choose to visit patients in their home, assisted living or nursing home facility or in-patient care centers. Volunteer a few hours a week or a couple hours a month, flexible scheduling is available. No experience or medial background necessary; training and background screening provided at no cost.
