Teen Volunteers Change Lives- If you are a high school student who lives or attends school in Pinellas or Hillsborough County and are between the ages of 14-18, you may become an Empath Health teen volunteer. By volunteering, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people of all ages and walks of life. Teen volunteers bring unique energy, compassion and skills that support our mission in many special ways. I If you are a teen seeking to improve the lives of people in your community, join us. You can make a difference and find new meaning in your life. Volunteer Opportunities- Brighten the day of patients with Companionship visits; help patients record their life stories through the Lifetime Legacies program; throw a birthday, anniversary or anytime party for patients as a Party Pal; help at one of our Resale Shoppes(Pinellas County); share your organizational and computer skills in one of our administrative offices; assist with our special events; do activities with seniors at our Adult Day Centers, bake cookies for patients; make blankets or crafts for patient visits. ***Empath Health Does Not Offer Volunteer Hours for Court Ordered Community Service*** To learn more about the Teen Volunteer Program, please call: North Pinellas County (727) 771-4433 South Pinellas County (727) 515-7133 Hillsborough County (727) 599-8671 Before registering for volunteer training, teens are required to contact the teen volunteer coordinator nearest to their home and/or school to set up an interview. Palliative Arts Volunteer Patient and Family Support volunteers comfort patients by providing holistic services in the following modalities: Pet Visits - The use of pets to provide comfort, peace and well-being. Pets must be evaluated and certified by an approved certification organization. Some breed exclusions apply. Guided Meditation - The use of guided meditation helps to focus and clear the mind using a combination of mental and physical techniques. Aromatherapy - The use of essential oils to promote health of the body, mind and spirit. Aromatherapy training required. Reiki - The use of energy therapy techniques to promote relaxation, comfort and create a sense of peacefulness. Reiki training offered for Patient and Family Support and Bereavement Support volunteers. Caring Touch- The use of gentle massage techniques designed to help promote deep relaxation and to promote relief from pain/discomfort. Licensed Massage Therapy - The use of hands-on techniques delivered by Florida licensed massage therapists to promote relaxation and reduce pain. Music - The use of music as a tool, gift or opportunity to bring peach and comfort. Musicians may perform for patients or share musical interests with patients via music CD's or iPods. ***Empath Health Does Not Offer Volunteer Hours for Court Ordered Community Service*** Volunteer Orientation is a 3 hour training session for individuals interested in learning more about Empath Health’s volunteer opportunities. Patient/Family Support Training consists of 6 hours of training for individuals interested in providing caring support to Suncoast Hospice patients and families. If you enjoy interacting with people and supporting them along their healthcare journey - this is the volunteer opportunity for you. Patient and Family Support - Provide support to patients and their families though companionship, errand running, respite, and other special activities. Volunteers can choose to visit patients in their home, assisted living or nursing home facility or in-patient care centers. Volunteer a few hours a week or a couple hours a month, flexible scheduling is available. No experience or medial background necessary; training and background screening provided at no cost. Veterans Serving Veterans Program- Seeking Retired, Discharged and Active-Duty Military Service Members At Empath Health we believe it is our duty to help our community's veterans by providing extraordinary health care that meets their unique needs. As a Veteran Serving Veteran volunteer, you will have the honor of extending a warm hand of friendship to military veterans with serious illness and those nearing the end of life. This service offers a special bond only those with military experiences share and a way to pay tribute to those who have served our country - your military brothers and sisters. Visit military veteran patients, take part in special pinning ceremonies, present appreciation certificates, share holiday events or help interview veterans who share life and military stories through the Veterans History Project.
