Palliative Arts Volunteer
Patient and Family Support volunteers comfort patients by providing holistic services in the following modalities:
Pet Visits - The use of pets to provide comfort, peace and well-being. Pets must be evaluated and certified by an approved certification organization. Some breed exclusions apply.
Aromatherapy - The use of essential oils to promote health of the body, mind and spirit. Aromatherapy training required.
Reiki - The use of energy therapy techniques to promote relaxation, comfort and create a sense of peacefulness. Reiki training offered for Patient and Family Support and Bereavement Support volunteers.
Licensed Massage Therapy - The use of hands-on techniques delivered by Florida licensed massage therapists to promote relaxation and reduce pain.
Music - The use of live or recorded music to promote comfort, to enhance quality of life and to support meaningful interactions with patients and families. Training for using live or recorded music is provided to Patient and Family Support and Bereavement Support volunteers.
Volunteer Orientation is a four-hour training session for individuals interested in learning more about Empath Health’s volunteer opportunities.
Patient/Family Support Training consists of twelve hours of training for individuals interested in providing caring support to Suncoast Hospice patients and families. Empath Health Volunteer Orientation is a prerequisite.
