Wildfires are devastating communities across California, causing more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes and threatening many more. The Camp Fire in Northern California -- one of three blazing across the state -- is the most destructive in state history. We want to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you find access to shelter. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know the most effective ways to contribute.
Patient and Family Support volunteers comfort patients by providing holistic services in the following modalities:
Pet Visits - The use of pets to provide comfort, peace and well-being. Pets must be evaluated and certified by an approved certification organization. Some breed exclusions apply.
Aromatherapy - The use of essential oils to promote health of the body, mind and spirit. Aromatherapy training required.
Reiki - The use of energy therapy techniques to promote relaxation, reduce suffering caused by anxiety/agitation and create a sense of peacefulness. Reiki training offered for Patient and Family Support and Bereavement Support volunteers.
Licensed Massage Therapy - The use of hands-on techniques delivered by Florida licensed massage therapists to promote relaxation and reduce pain.
Music - The use of music as a tool, gift or opportunity to bring peace and comfort. Musicians may perform for patients or share musical interests with patients via music CDs or iPods
Volunteer Orientation is a four-hour training session for individuals interested in learning more about Empath Health’s volunteer opportunities. Patient/Family Support Training consists of 12 hours of training for individuals interested in providing caring support to Suncoast Hospice patients and families. Empath Health Volunteer Orientation is a prerequisite.
