The visitor services assistant position is designed for students or youth with limited volunteer or work experience. Supervised by the Director of Operations, they will assist with cleaning and administrative tasks while learning basic customer service and workplace tasks. Duties Regularly reset exhibits, ensuring all exhibit objects are put away and tidy. Light cleaning tasks, including sweeping, dusting, glass cleaning Sanitize exhibits as necessary Greet Visitors and answer questions Assist with programs, including preparation, supply distribution, and clean up. Administrative Tasks as necessary, including data entry, preparation of mail Other tasks, as directed Skills Friendly and Approachable Demeanor Willingness to learn and take direction Ability to work independently and with a team Comfortable with children Comfortable in a loud, busy, stimulating environment

Educators help facilitate hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math activities at Discovery Station. They assist the Director of Operations in leading weekly STEAM Saturday programs and pop-up activities throughout the day. Prepare supplies for engineering challenges like robot claws, amaze children with chemistry while making elephant toothpaste, and embrace the mess after making homemade paint! There is also an opportunity for the STEAM Educator to volunteer outside of normal operating hours at various community outreach events throughout the year. Duties Facilitate hands-on STEAM activities Help children use problem-solving to achieve their vision Assist in the preparation of supplies Maintain cleanliness of the Program Classroom and other exhibits as assigned. Docents serve as a host in the exhibit, creating a welcoming atmosphere and actively engaging children in the various activities. Enrich and educate visitors on STEAM principles through demonstration, hands-on play, and conversation. Our STEAM Machine exhibit has painting easels, a chalkboard wall, blocks, rotating featured crafts, and a wide variety of craft supplies for children to create whatever they can imagine. Volunteers should be motivated to maintain a working knowledge of the exhibit and willing to adjust their approach based on age level and background. We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer who wants to help children discover the joy of STEAM! Discovery Station at Hagerstown, Inc. is a hands-on museum providing life-long learning experiences to thousands of children and families. Our programs and events that give kids access to hands-on science and art, of which we host over 100 annually, are our greatest driver of traffic to the museum. The events promotion assistant will aid in marketing these programs by maintaining a Discovery Station presence on various digital platforms at the direction of the Director of Operations. Duties Submits Discovery Station programs to local and state online calendars on a monthly basis. Proofreads marketing materials and ensures all information is accurate. Evaluates current online marketing efforts and gives feedback to Discovery Station staff as necessary. Communicates with Discovery Station staff regularly, collaborates and asks for help as needed. Other tasks, as directed Skills Comfortable using and troubleshooting computers and websites. Self-Directed and able to work independently. Dependable and reliable.
