Give a caregiver a much-needed break! Support a family caregiver by spending a little time with an older adult who has a chronic illness or disability. You’ll provide supervision and socialization for the older adult while the caregiver receives a break.... no medical or hands-on cares. You may play games, read, or do other various activities with the senior while their caregiver is away. Flexible schedule! Key Responsibilities: Provide respite support by visiting and supervising care receiver. Provide a stimulating activity if appropriate. Stay with care receiver until caregiver or other relief is present. Report all changes in care receiver status and concerns about the caregiver to assigned Service Coordinator. Participate in DARTS orientation & training, evaluation and on-going communication with Service Coordinator. Understand and follow the DARTS Volunteer Guidelines. Volunteers provide basic yard work clean-up in the spring for older homeowners who are no longer able to do the work themselves. Volunteers are assigned to as many yards they are interested in serving. Tool kit of instructions and information is provided. This is a great opportunity for families, groups and individuals! Volunteers are matched with seniors throughout Dakota County.

Learning Buddies volunteers connect with elementary students in Dakota & Southern Washington County schools to provide academic support and create intergenerational connections. Volunteers work with the same class and teacher for the entire school year. Contact: volunteer@darts1.org or call 651-234-2227 to learn more. Overview: Volunteer assists an older homeowner by mowing their lawn for an entire mowing season. Season usually begins in May and ends in October. Lawn mower provided by homeowner. Service Impact: The DARTS lawn mowing volunteer plays a crucial part in helping older adults remain independent in their own homes by providing a service that is either difficult or impossible for them to manage on their own. Keeping their lawns looking neat allows the older homeowners to maintain a feeling of pride in their property and helps them remain a vital part of their neighborhood. Key Responsibilities: Mow the lawn once a week or once every other week depending on the needs of the older homeowner Greet the homeowner at the door each time the service is provided Follow DARTS safety rules and volunteer guidelines Report volunteer hours each time by calling 651-234-2287. Notify Volunteer Resources if unable to mow as scheduled

A technology visitor has the opportunity to develop a one to one relationship with an older adult living in Dakota County while also providing basic assistance with technology. Volunteers are notified as a need request is submitted and hours are flexible to make a connection. You have the choice to volunteer in your local neighborhood community or within the county! Activities could include; assisting to set up or understand the basics of a tablet, smart phone, helping to use social media, and other assistance as deemed appropriate. Understand and follow the DARTS Volunteer Guidelines. Report volunteer service hours monthly If you need to rearrange or cancel visits, please notify the client.
