Are you looking to serve older adults in your community? Would you like to do that over drinks? Once a month, our fantastic volunteer, Kim, puts on a Happy Hour at a different location in North Beach. We are looking for a volunteer to join Kim once a month to help facilitate conversation at this event. Around 10 people typically attend this event. The schedule: The second Tuesday of every month at 4 PM Upcoming Dates: June 14th, July 12th, August 9th, September 13th The hard truth is that people's communities dwindle as they age. This monthly happy hour creates a relaxed environment for people to meet each other and build connections. Do you have extra time on your hands mid-week? Are you looking to help older adults in San Francisco simply by giving them a ride to the grocery store or a doctor's appointment? Volunteer with NEXT Village to get to know a neighbor and help older SF residents age in place! We are especially in need of volunteers who can drive members to mid-day appointments on weekdays! Transportation requests can include the following: Rides to and from doctors appointments Rides to and from the grocery store Rides to museums, parks, and other NEXT Village SF events A companion to join them in a taxi to the doctor (no car needed!) These drives are all within San Francisco city limits, but our members cannot make the trip by public transportation and/ or don’t own a car. NEXT Village SF is supporting older adults in northeast San Francisco, and we need your help! If you want to support your senior neighbors, we'd love to have you on our team. Our members are always looking for technology support. Visits can take place over Zoom or in person. Many companies offer paid volunteer time, so you can actually volunteer during the day and still get paid! Here are some examples of the kind of tech help requests we get: unsubscribing from junk mail and organizing email inboxes troubleshooting issues with Zoom learning about how to use common apps on iPhone and Android phones setting up their computer or wifi setting up accessibility features (voice dictation, increasing font size, etc.) learning to use Google Workspace (calendar, drive, docs, etc.) updating computer software and more! As we age, it's important to keep our bodies moving to stay healthy. A senior neighbor, S, knows this and challenges herself to 30- to 45-minute walks in her Castro/ Eureka Valley neighborhood! S lives at Eureka and 19th Street. We're looking for a volunteer or two to meet S once a week for a walk through the neighborhood. She needs some physical support, such as guiding her walker around large cracks in the sidewalk and holding her waist as she goes downhill. This would be a great opportunity for a strong resident of the Castro/ Eureka Valley neighborhood. She runs a film festival every year and is a delight to talk to! This is a great way to get to know a neighbor while getting your daily steps in. The timing of this is flexible; S has an open schedule and is happy to work around your availability.
