Are you looking to gain a connection with your community? Want to make a senior's day simply by visiting her and her sweet dog? Want to get to know a fantastic member of the community? A NEXT Village member is looking for a volunteer or two to spend some time with. She has a hard time leaving her house due to medical issues, but she is still sharp as a tack. She lives with her senior dog Bella and would love to get to know some of her neighbors. We're looking for someone to visit her for 15 minutes to an hour on an ongoing basis. The time of day and day of the week are flexible, it's whatever works best for you! NEXT Village is an organization that supports older adults age in place. Do you have extra time on your hands mid-week? Are you looking to help older adults in San Francisco simply by giving them a ride to the grocery store or a doctor's appointment? Volunteer with NEXT Village to get to know a neighbor and help older SF residents age in place! Volunteering is ad-hoc; pick and choose what you'd like to help with. We are especially in need of volunteers who can drive members to mid-day appointments on weekdays! Transportation requests can include the following: Rides to and from doctors appointments Rides to and from the grocery store Rides to museums, parks, and other NEXT Village SF events A companion to join them in a taxi to the doctor (no car needed!) These drives are all within San Francisco city limits, but our members cannot make the trip by public transportation and/ or don’t own a car. Are you looking to serve older adults in your community? Would you like to do so over drinks? Once a month, our fantastic volunteer, Kim, and a group of members gather to socialize and try a new restaurant in North Beach or a neighboring area. We are seeking a volunteer to back up our regular person when she is unavailable, 3-4 times per year, to order snacks for the group and pay with a gift card. Around 10 people typically attend this event. The schedule: When: The second Wednesday of every month at 5 p.m. Upcoming Dates: February 12th, March 12th, April 9th. Where: New location every month. The hard truth is that people's communities dwindle as they age. This monthly happy hour creates a relaxed environment for people to meet each other and build connections. Loneliness has just been proven to be as deadly as smoking a pack a day, so we're doing everything we can to help people keep their community strong. Once a month, our fantastic volunteer, Kim, and a group of members gather to discuss the books and media that people reviewed and want to share. We need a volunteer to back up our regular person when she is unavailable, 4-5 times per year, to order snacks for the group, pay with a gift card, and record the notes of recommendations to be shared the next month. Around 10 people typically attend this event. The schedule: When: The fourth Wednesday of every month at 5 p.m. Upcoming Dates: January 22nd, February 26th, March 26th. Where: Mescalito, 2323 Polk St, at Union. The hard truth is that people's communities dwindle as they age. This monthly reading circle creates a relaxed environment for people to meet each other and build connections. Virtual Opportunity
Do you love trivia and are looking to connect with others who feel thee same? We're seeking an excited and engaged trivia master to lead a monthly trivia game for seniors on Zoom. Our knowledgeable group of attendees meets once a month on the third Friday afternoon at 4 p.m., but we’re happy to adjust the schedule based on your availability as long as the class starts between 4 and 5 p.m. on a Friday. We'd like the host to put together the trivia slides ahead of time, and we are happy to collaborate on the first couple to help guide the event in a fun direction.
