One evening a month, a sanitizing solution must be sprayed (and left to dry) on DOGS FOREVER's artificial turf. The sanitizer application process requires no mixing. Simply attach the sanitizer sprayer to garden hose, wet the turf with water, then turn sprayer dial to sanitize.

We are a small Adoption Guarantee shelter in Cedar Rapids, IA. We are 100% donation-funded and 100% volunteer-operated. We need volunteers who want to work 2 hour shifts taking care of our dogs. This entails walking, feeding, and playing with the dogs. Also some light cleaning (sometimes the dogs decide to make a mess!). We have a flexible schedule that can work with almost everyone's busy lives. Please consider becoming part of our team! All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and physically able to handle strong/big dogs. We do not take people doing court-ordered community service. Volunteers are not allowed to bring their children or anyone else with them when they volunteer, unless the person with them is also a volunteer who has attended orientation. We ask our volunteers to do a minimum of two shifts per month. We do 3 shifts per day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year: 6 am - 8 am 11:30 - 1 pm 6 pm - 8 pm To get the ball rolling, submit a Volunteer Questionnaire found under the GET INVOLVED tab on our website: https://dogsforever.org/volunteer/volunteer-questionnaire/. After it is received, you will be contacted by our Volunteer Coordinator who will help match your interests with our needs. If you do not receive an email within 7-10 days, please send an email to info@dogsforever.org with FOLLOW UP in the subject line. Thank you for your interest in joining our team of dedicated volunteers!

You may opt to work alone or on a small team (with 3-5 other volunteers). Our Shelter Manager or our Facility Lead will explain the project details and answer all your questions. No special training is needed...just a willingness to help make our shelter as nice as it can possibly be for our resident dogs, our volunteers and the visiting public! Sample projects: Donate your clean, dry, aluminum cans and/or redeemable bottles Mow small grassy strip (near sidewalk) in the summertime Bake sweet treats to sell at our fundraisers Shovel the sidewalk in winter time De-weed parking lot areas not covered by turf Remove spritzers and shade tarps at the end of summer Take non-NutriSource food donations to Animeals Donate a tote of new or gently used clothes & household items to Stuff Etc (for our acct) Post (or re-post electronically) our fundraising flyers Make snuffle mats and snuffle balls for fundraising events. Do you have bad knees? Are you recovering from surgery? Are you concerned about walking big strong dogs that pull like a team of wild horses? Are you unable to walk shelter dogs for another reason but still wish to interact with them? As an alternative to being a "Dog Walker", we have a " Shelter Guardian" position. A "Shelter Guardian" is the third person who stays at the shelter during the AM, MID, or PM, shift performing various shelter tasks like cleaning up kennels, getting food/water/meds ready, swapping laundry, getting the dogs out to the play yard for some extra fresh and air fun time, while the two "Dog Walkers" are out walking dogs. ========================================================== To get the ball rolling, submit a Volunteer Questionnaire found under the GET INVOLVED tab on our website: https://dogsforever.org/volunteer/volunteer-questionnaire/. Note: If you do not receive an email from our Volunteer Coordinator within 7-10 days, send an email to info@dogsforever.org with FOLLOW UP in the Subject line. Job Description: Keep watch over dogs in the outside play yards Ensure that the play yards are clean, have plenty of poop bags Ensure that dogs have fresh water and toys Interact with the dogs individually, either in their kennels or in the play yards Sweep/mop floors, do laundry Wash dog dishes, clean and fill water pails Restock the refrigerator Because the Guardian remains at the shelter while walkers are out walking, all of the outdoor exercise areas can be utilized and the shelter can remain unlocked. Dogs will get more time getting fresh air and exercise (reducing accidents in kennels). Guardians with cell phones can be called if a dog-walker needs assistance. Job Requirements: Attend Orientation (if you’ve not already done so) Sign up (using the SignUp link after orientation) Two shifts a month (you only have to do two shifts a month to be an active volunteer, but you can surely do more!)
