Our volunteers are essential to what we do at Centrica Care Navigators, and they are nothing less than extraordinary in their generosity and care. As a Centrica volunteer, you do not provide medicine or physical care as the physicians, nurses, and aides do. You can brighten someone’s day and help ease their suffering simply by being present, holding a hand, and lending an ear. We will help match you with assignments that fit your unique skills, interests, and schedule. We also provide extensive training and support, so you feel prepared and confident for your role. Hospice services are flexible and driven by each client’s unique physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Clients may be living in their private residence, a community care facility, or in one of our agency-operated hospice sites. Centrica Care Navigators is looking for Pet Therapy dogs, and their humans, to share their unique gifts as a member of the care team offering support and comfort during this end-of-life journey. Pet Therapy dogs offer a calming and loving distraction for clients and their families as well as reduces anxiety and loneliness. As a Pet Therapy Volunteer, you and your dog choose your assignments and may visit any of the Arbors, Adult Day Services, or client’s home/facility in which they reside in any of the counties in which Centrica Care Navigators covers. We require all dogs to be certified in order to become a volunteer. If you have a calm and friendly dog that you believe would be a great pet therapy dog, staff are more than willing to help walk you through the process if you wish to get your dog certified. And if you know of any Therapy Dog Teams, we will work with you and the team to organize a date or create an event to provide services to our clients. Journeys offers year-round grief counseling for children, teens, and their families who are hurting after the death of a loved one. Grieving children can express and process their thoughts and feelings, learn healthy coping skills, and interact with others close in age. This grief counseling program is free and supported by donations from the community. Professional grief support counselors train the volunteers as they begin their service and are actively involved in each session providing encouragement and support every step of the way. Volunteers can assist in a variety of roles: Meal Support Child Care Group Co-Leader Greeter Preparation/Set Up Journeys takes place the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evenings of every month, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Dinner is provided to the families then children are divided by age for facilitated activities such as art, music, and interaction to share memories and learn how to cope with their forever changed lives.
