Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan

Hospice volunteers help patients, families, and their caregivers by offering emotional support at the end of life. Great joy can be found in helping someone live life to its fullest; for as long as life lasts. Volunteers offer an array of services, including:

  • Companionship: spending one-on-one time with an individual on Hospice Services. Reading to them, playing cards/board games, looking at photo albums, talking about their life/family/interests, doing crafts - overall, just visiting.
  • Respite: spending time with a client on Hospice Services so the caregiver can leave the home to run errands, attend appointments, get some rest, do lawn work, visit family/friends, etc. Could be ongoing or a one-time request.
  • Light Housekeeping: assist a Hospice client with tidying up a room, vacuuming, laundry, dishes, light housework. Occasionally there may be a request for meal prep, such as preparing pureed meals.
  • Story Catcher: life story recording for Hospice clients to provide touching stories to their loved ones.
  • Other opportunities as needed.
Volunteers get to choose their assignments! Becoming a hospice volunteer could be the most rewarding experience of your life. Contact us today to learn more about this unique opportunity.

Services are provided in Kalamazoo, Van Buren, Cass, Calhoun, Barry, Allegan, Berrien, Eaton, St. Joseph and Branch counties.
