English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes for Adults What: Volunteer to teach an English as a Second Language class to adult non-native English speakers. Positions are available to lead a class or to co-teach. Classes are approximately 20 students. Where/When: Morning classes: offered via Zoom on Monday-Friday from 9-10:15am and 10:30-11:45am. Evening classes: offered via Zoom and in-person at Tulane Univ. Online classes are Monday-Thursday from 6-7:15 pm and 7:30-8:45pm. In-person classes are Tuesday-Thursday from 6-8pm. More Details: Volunteers are asked to commit to one class time, one day/week for a minimum of 3 months (a full term of classes). It is not required that you speak any language other than English. We provide basic ESL training twice a month.

Family Literacy Program What: Comprehensive educational and social support for immigrant and refugee youth and families in the New Orleans area. Volunteers are needed to assist with the Family Night on Mondays and the youth tutoring on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Where/When: Monday-Wednesday from 5:30-7:00pm. Monday and Tuesday are in-person in Metairie. Tutoring on Wednesday is via Zoom. More Details: Volunteers are asked to commit to one class time, one day/week for a minimum of 3 months (a full term of classes). It is not required that you speak any language other than English. We provide basic ESL training twice a month.

Catholic Charities' Refugee Services program is in need of volunteers to lead cultural orientations for newly arrived refugee clients. The volunteers will teach clients about life in the United States and cultural norms from a prepared slideshow. A great way to connect to the refugee community! The orientations will happen once a week for 3 hours during the 9am-5pm time frame for the duration of one month. Day of the week will be Monday - Friday but is flexible. This position will require an interview to make sure you are a good fit, and a three month commitment to the program for continuity for our refugee clients.

Citizenship Classes for Adults What: Volunteer with our citizenship classes for individuals preparing to take their naturalization exam and interview. Help students learn the 100 civics questions, practice English, review the naturalization application, and conduct mock interviews. Where/When: Classes are offered via Zoom Monday/Tuesday, 6:30-8:30pm, and Wednesday/Thursday, 6-8pm. Volunteer needed to assist with clerical duties Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. OR 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. Open mail, help with answering the phones, make phone calls, filing, assist with outreach and other office duties at needed at our Food for Seniors program. This program provides commodity food boxes for income-eligible seniors (ages 60+) throughout the state living with food insecurity.
