Cultural Orientation Volunteer

What:
Catholic Charities' Refugee Services program is in need of volunteers to lead cultural orientations for newly arrived refugee clients. The volunteers will teach clients about life in the United States and cultural norms from a prepared slideshow. This is a great way to connect to the refugee community!

When:
The orientations will happen once a week for 3 hours during the 9am-5pm time frame for the duration of one month. The day of the week will be Monday - Friday but is flexible.

Where:
Orientations will take place at our administrative offices in Metairie.

Other Requirements:
This position will require an interview to make sure you are a good fit and a three-month commitment to the program for continuity for our refugee clients.

Description

Since 1938 Catholic Charities has been offering life-giving programs, advocating for the voiceless and empowering the most vulnerable to foster a more just society. Catholic Charities has over 22 programs and twoaffiliated ministries in the eight civil parishes of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Our programs engage and serve members of the community from pre-birth to the elderly but all of them fall under one of the following areas:

  • domestic violence
  • education and young adults
  • food and nutrition
  • housing and homelessness
  • disaster recovery
  • immigration/refugee resettlement
  • justice and employment
  • physical and mental health
  • pro-life services
  • senior services
