Youth Mentor Ally Program (YMAP) Mentor

What:
Youth mentors aid in the resettlement of refugee clients ages 15-24 through 1-1 mentoring. Mentors help clients navigate American culture, assist with life goals, and practice speaking English. This unique opportunity helps both mentor and mentee grow. Through this program, mentees learn to problem solve and navigate any life obstacle through collaboration with their mentor.

Where/When:
Mentors commit to 2 meetings per month for a total of 4-8 hours each meeting, for a period of 6 months with matched mentee.

More Details:
Volunteers will need to complete a program application, attend training sessions, and complete a background check and Safe Environment online training. Speaking a second language is not a requirement of this program.

Description

Since 1938 Catholic Charities has been offering life-giving programs, advocating for the voiceless and empowering the most vulnerable to foster a more just society. Catholic Charities has over 22 programs and twoaffiliated ministries in the eight civil parishes of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Our programs engage and serve members of the community from pre-birth to the elderly but all of them fall under one of the following areas:

  • children and families
  • domestic violence
  • education and young adults
  • food and nutrition
  • housing and homelessness
  • disaster recovery
  • immigration/refugee resettlement
  • justice and employment
  • physical and mental health
  • pro-life services
  • senior services
