Grief Buddies provide 1-to-1 peer support to a bereaved person who has recently experienced the loss of a loved one. This can be a valuable resource for people who are grieving, especially those who don't have a strong support network. What is expected of me? You will be a listening ear, support as they reflect on their experience, and provide practical support if appropriate. Grief Buddies provide 4-6 visits which are usually 1-2 hours. Why we need your help? HMH Hospice knows that community support and social connections can play a huge role in helping a bereaved person deal with their loss and maintain their well-being. You can provide a safe and non-judgmental space for sharing confusing emotions that sometimes are hard to share with family members and friends. What can you gain? Knowing you are helping people in your local community, you will use and be able to develop active listening and communicating skills, and you will be joining an enthusiastic team of people. If you're a compassionate person who's looking for a truly meaningful volunteer opportunity, then Hackensack Meridian Hospice is the right fit for you. Orientation is free of charge. For more information, contact Hospice.Volunteer@HMHN.org.
