Volunteer position descriptions are subject to change by the department as the needs of the department and requirements of the volunteer position change. Volunteer Position Description: The volunteer will assist patrons by helping with basic computer program questions and troubleshooting techniques. Duties may involve activities such as: Assist and instruct library patrons in use of library computers, email, software, electronic resources and general internet applications Assist with printing, copying, connecting to Wi-Fi and other basic computer issues Help patrons troubleshoot basic computer problems, utilizing library resources and personal strategies. Helpful Skills for the Volunteer Role: Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills Technologically proficient and knowledgeable of various computer applications, including Microsoft Office is required Understanding and ability to use basic web applications is required Background in customer service is preferred Possess sensitivity and cultural awareness Ability to work independently Volunteer Environment: Interaction with the non-native English speakers Ability to stand for extended periods of time More information & To Apply: glendaleazlibrary.com

Volunteer Position Description: Shelf Reader Volunteers ensure books are in correct order on the shelves and reshelf if needed. They also help maintain the appearance and cleanliness of shelves. Duties may involve activities such as: Organize materials in alphabetical and numerical order Order books on the shelves using the Dewey Decimal System Clean and maintain the appearance of bookshelves Shelve books Helpful Skills for the Volunteer Role: Familiarity with the Dewey Decimal System is preferred, but not required Ability to professionally interact with patrons Ability to follow instructions Ability to work independently Attention to detail Physical ability to bend, stand, lift, and push heavy book carts Volunteer Environment: Require standing for extended periods Interaction with the general public is a regular occurrence More information & To Apply: glendaleazlibrary.com

During a 1 hour session, works with a group of new, beginning readers to read books of their choosing. Volunteers have a unique opportunity to encourage a love of reading and promote library services and collections through this program. Duties may involve activities such as: Provide a positive reading experience to the reader Ensure the reader is doing a variety of activities and keep the session light and fun Be enthusiastic and creative Help make sure pronunciation and understanding of unfamiliar words occurs during the session Perform other duties as assigned Helpful Skills for the Volunteer Role: Ability to professionally interact with patrons Ability to follow instructions Ability to work independently Ability to work well with others Patience is required Attention to detail Required Documentation: Fingerprints & Badge done by City of Glendale Self-insured Volunteer Environment: Interaction with the general public is a regular occurrence
