During a 1 hour session, works with a group of new, beginning readers to read books of their choosing. Volunteers have a unique opportunity to encourage a love of reading and promote library services and collections through this program.
Duties may involve activities such as:
- Provide a positive reading experience to the reader
- Ensure the reader is doing a variety of activities and keep the session light and fun
- Be enthusiastic and creative
- Help make sure pronunciation and understanding of unfamiliar words occurs during the session
- Perform other duties as assigned
Helpful Skills for the Volunteer Role:
- Ability to professionally interact with patrons
- Ability to follow instructions
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work well with others
- Patience is required
- Attention to detail
Required Documentation:
- Fingerprints & Badge done by City of Glendale
- Self-insured
Volunteer Environment:
- Interaction with the general public is a regular occurrence

The shift is flexible given when the program would be scheduled. Scheduling will be determined between branch and volunteer.
