Democratism seeks a Social Media Contributor to join a team of volunteers producing social media campaigns and posts and participating in social media strategy and management, in support of our democracy mission. Responsibilities: Be ready to develop an understanding of the organization’s objectives and social media goals Propose, prepare, and run campaigns on specific topics related to the organization’s objectives, such as the nature of the organization’s democracy proposal or its connection to other issues important to you personally (such as climate change, racial justice, gun control, reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, or economic fairness) Sign up for a time during each week to be available to prepare and review social media posts on a variety of relevant topics that are separate from campaigns Follow news and social media on relevant topics Work with other volunteers to review and approve each others’ proposed campaigns and posts Participate in a weekly 40-minute remote social media meeting, including sharing your views and joining in group decision making. There will also be opportunities to be involved in social engagement, analysis, coordination, and strategy. Skills & Experience: Proficiency and experience in at least one of the major social media platforms and readiness to develop proficiency in all three Comfort using and learning online tools for internal communication and work planning People of all backgrounds and identities are strongly encouraged to apply. Volunteers will join a team building connections with advocates and activists working on gun violence, racial justice, immigration, the climate emergency, voting rights, economic fairness, abortion rights, LGBTQ issues, and others issues that depend on improving our democracy. Applicants should be prepared to: Develop an understanding of the organization’s mission and outreach objectives Attend a weekly internal meeting via Zoom Research the structure and mission of other organizations Communicate with other organizations and their members via email and in one-on-one and group meetings. Responsibilities: Gain an understanding of the organization’s objectives and ensure that all server activities align with Democratism’s values. Collaborate with Democratism staff to develop comprehensive server rules and guidelines including appropriate topics of discussion and community member behavior. Review content shared within the server to ensure compliance with communication guidelines. Encourage discussion and collaboration among community members. Resolve conflicts in a fair and timely manner. Strategize server development and organization including the creation of new private and public channels. Assist community members in navigating Discord. Stay up to date on new Discord features and updates. Democratism is looking for grassroots advocates to join a team of volunteers and advance model legislation to end the Electoral College and create proportional representation in Congress. Advocates will lead efforts in their local community (town, city, or county) to advance this legislation, called the Democracy Decree. Applicants should be prepared to: Establish relationships with local policymakers and legislators to educate them about Democratism and its proposed legislation, the Democracy Decree Strategize best practices for local organizing and movement building Organize and lead local action campaigns and events.
