Do you have experience writing grants? Roots for Life is looking for an experienced volunteer grant-proposal researcher and writer. Expectations You will work remotely and on your own schedule, though we require a minimum commitment of 10 -15 hours a month. Our staff are full-time working volunteers, we communicate mostly through email. All staff are required to respond to emails on a daily basis. If you possess a high level of self-motivation, work well independently, strive for excellence, and can commit quality time per week on a regular basis to help achieve team goals, we’d like to hear from you. Responsibilities Prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporations Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants Assess our organization's programs, goals and financial needs Create timely and accurate reports of existing grant-funded projects Assist with other fundraising projects as requested Requirements 2+ years of experience with grant writing Proficient Internet research skills Familiarity with Foundation Directory Online or other databases Ability to meet deadlines Strong writing and communication skills Excellent writing and editing skills Interest in public health, food, and nutrition Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Calling all foodies! Share your love of food with the residents of Washington, D.C. Roots for Life is looking for someone who wants to get residents excited about healthy eating. This position will be responsible for leading cooking and/or nutrition education sessions that include healthy recipe sampling, visual aide(s) and handouts at various sites. Expectations The Cooking and Nutrition Educator will serve as a teacher and role model, teaching and reinforcing key messages about healthy eating and inspiring residents to adopt healthy eating habits. Educator should (1) Have an outgoing personality and positive attitude; (2) dress and act in a professional manner; and (3) demonstrate good communication and public speaking skills. Responsibilities Assist in food preparation/cooking classes in Washington, D.C. Help answer basic nutrition questions from individuals participating in the cooking and nutrition classes Adhere to food safety guidelines in preparation, transportation and serving of food Collect feedback from program participants during nutrition education sessions Be open-minded and empathize with the needs of our local communities Be punctual, self-motivated, cooperative and flexible Requirements Afternoon and weekend availability A love of cooking using fruits and veggies as a bases A basic understanding of nutrition and how to use fruits and veggies in the diet ServSafe Certified, or willing to take class to become certified Nutrition training at an accredited institution. Registered Dietitian and/or four-year degree in nutrition, food science, dietetics, or related field preferred. Dietetic interns are encouraged to apply. We also accept dietetic students in their senior year Experience is a plus Interest and comfort in working with low-income individuals from diverse backgrounds Compensation Details: This is an unpaid/volunteer position. Volunteer will be asked to commit to a minimum of 1 - 2 cooking classes or education classes per month. Hours will vary. Volunteer must be able to travel to class locations. Description The Donor Concierge is an unpaid virtual volunteer position. The Donor Concierge provides support to Roots for Life’s individual fundraising initiatives. The Donor Concierge will focus on building relationships and will develop an implement Roots for Life’s donor stewardship activities. Specific duties will include: Develop a signature monthly giving donation program Develop an annual donor communication plan Develop content for donor newsletters Help build relationships that increase resources and public awareness of Roots for Life Track donor relations and stewardship activities Skills & Personal Traits Passionate about food insecurity and like to nurture relationships Strong writing and editing skills, with keen attention to detail 2 years of fundraising experience Works well independently and proactively as part of a team, and ability to meet deadlines. Knowledge of non-profit culture is preferred.
