Serenity Hospice is looking for volunteers in Marion, Polk, Benton and Linn counties to serve patients and families of the terminally ill. Working as a hospice volunteer is similar to helping a family in need. The only qualification required is your desire to help those in your community. You don't need any medical skills, you don't even need to know what to say. No experience is necessary and all training will be provided. Volunteer your time and talent as a companion for a patient, as an end of life vigil support, office assistant, veteran companion and more. Our volunteers do a variety of tasks and there is something for everyone! There are even helpful projects you can do from the comfort of your own home. Volunteer on your own, with a friend, or with your family for an amazing and life changing experience. Serenity Hospice is welcoming new volunteers in the Portland metro area, with a particular need on the East side of the Willamette River. Hospice volunteers come from all walks of life, bringing an array of experiences to those we serve. Experience in hospice or health care is not required. The most valuable asset to a hospice volunteer is an open heart. Volunteers at Serenity Hospice support patients and their families in various ways. Volunteers offer companionship, end-of-life vigil support, caregiver respite periods, helping with household chores, and much more. Some volunteers enjoy serving our patients indirectly by helping in our offices. We even have opportunities for you to help from the comfort of your own home. Virtual Opportunity
Serenity Hospice's Salem and Eugene offices are looking for dedicated volunteers with mature communication skills to help make weekly service calls to our Salem and Eugene patients and their primary caregivers, then enter basic information into an online form. We are asking for a time commitment of 2 hours per week. After a brief education in the office (which will require transportation), this volunteer position can be done 100% from the comfort of your home. Calls are typically made on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but some flexibility can be offered. All training will be provided. Serenity Hospice relies on volunteer support to provide excellent end-of-life care to each patient and family. By being a hospice volunteer, you can gain great personal satisfaction from knowing that you have made an impact in another person’s life at the time it matters most. Volunteers can work in all phases of hospice, providing clerical and administrative assistance as well as direct patient and family care. Many volunteers are introduced to hospice through the death of a family member or loved one, but others come to gain experience as medical students, help out their community, or simply to lend a hand to someone in need. There are many ways to help!
