Rewarding to be able to help individuals regain some form of independence, and respect for themselves.

I started volunteering here 12 months ago at the recommendation of a friend to get a "New Perspective on life" since I live in a very well off town and have never had to do without. In these 12 months I have donated 1000+ hours so far. I have volunteered in the Medical/Dental (Health) section as well as the Service oriented section (OPen Door) helping in the computer lab, Making name badges for clients, and working the triage/intake section and on special administration projects. It is interesting to see how for some people such basics as computer skills, proper spelling/grammar, and English language skills are not the norm. I am able to assist here as well as other places and see how my service can truly be a value to the individual who does want to better themselves and to help lift themselves out of the grips of poverty/homelessness. If you have never worked with Martha Childress you definitely need to meet her and work with her. She is a wonderful woman as she hides her angel wings.
