The Arts for Healing program partnered with a non-profit organization called Project Music Heals Us at the beginning of the pandemic to bring live, short virtual concerts to patients experiencing isolation. The concerts are through Zoom, are connected to a high-quality speaker and allow the patient and musician to interact with in the moment. Project Music Heals Us works with high skill professional musicians and raise funds to pay those musicians to perform these concerts. During the pandemic, we provided the virtual concerts primarily to isolated patients with COVID. Overtime, we transitioned to providing the concerts for oncology, transplant and other long-term patients. The virtual concert facilitator role is a weekly approximately 3.5 hour role. · Hour 1- From a list of referred patients, the volunteer introduces the concert opportunity to patients and creates a list and schedule for the concerts as some patients may only be available to receive the concerts at particular times. · Hour 2 and 3- This is when the musician is available to perform for patients (virtually). The volunteer communicates with the musician and brings the technology to each room and retrieves the technology after the concerts. They can stay with the patient for the concert if they’d like. Sometime between concerts the volunteer needs to coordinate the concert schedule once again due to last minute changes with patients. · Last 30 minutes- clean and put away technology and document visits. The volunteer will need to choose a consistent day and time that will then also become the musician’s consistent day and time. This can be Tuesday-Friday between 9am and 3pm.
