Patient and Family-Centered Care is responsive to priorities, preferences, and values of patients and their families.
We are actively recruiting multiple volunteer positions at Sharp Metro Campus.
** This posting is specifically for senior citizens NOT high school seniors. High school students are only accepted during specific times, please reference our website for more information.**
Where Volunteers Make a Difference
- Gift Shops & Boutiques
- Opportunities at Sharp Memorial Hospital and Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns include: selling items for women & newborns in 3 upscale boutiques. Volunteers also receive a 15% discount.
- Concierge Desks
- Providing assistance to patients and visitors by escorting them to many different areas in the hospital as Guest Ambassadors. They also perform errands to assist staff and answer questions for visitors.
- Nursing Units
- As a volunteer, you will assist caregivers with patients and family members while gaining valuable hospital experience
- Arts for Healing
- Sharp HealthCare's Arts for Healing Program is designed to address the physical, psychological, cognitive, spiritual and social needs of patients.
- Activities include: art projects, beading, card making, painting, and seasonal crafts.
*All volunteers receive a $6 meal credit in the cafeteria during their shift. *

Description
The new Sharp Memorial Hospital opened in 2009. The 368-bed hospital features private patient rooms, sleeper sofas for loved ones, state-of-the-art surgery suites and the largest and most modern emergency and trauma center in San Diego.
Sharp Memorial, part of the Sharp Metropolitan Medical Campus, is also a MAGNET hospital for nursing and patient care excellence. This designation is the "gold standard" for patient care and nursing excellence and it is the highest honor awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Only 22 hospitals in California are MAGNET hospitals. Sharp Memorial has been a part of San Diego health care history for more than 50 years. It continues to be at the forefront of medical technology and patient satisfaction.
