Patient companions will emotionally support and comfort patients and their families through listening, being present, and responding to their needs with compassion and care. Some of the duties include visiting with patients and listening, straightening up patients rooms to create a more healing environment, and making sure patients have everything they need utilizing the "caring cart." NOTE: Companions are neither mental health professionals nor medical doctors. While volunteers can actively listen and empathize, they cannot provide advice nor any service that can be misconstrued as therapy.

OMC strives to create a relaxing and caring environment for patients and guests. One way we do this is by offering complementary refreshments in our Outpatient Services waiting area. This is offered Monday- Friday from 8:00am to 10:00am. At the start of your shift, you will pick up the beverage cart from Café 49 at the main hospital entrance and take it to the 2nd floor Outpatient waiting area. You will help serve hot beverages and offer a small snack, help answer basic questions and offer directions within the hospital, sometimes even walking a person to their desired location. This is a low-stress volunteer position, but one that is vital to our mission of partnering for better health and better lives. If this opportunity interests you, please visit our website to complete a Volunteer Application: Volunteer Application (olmmed.org) or contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Joey White, at volunteer@olmmed.org or 507.292.7210
