We are looking for individuals who are passionate about the art of fine scale miniatures, history, toys, museums and learning! Docent volunteers at The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures are educators trained to further the public's knowledge and understanding of the museum collections. They deliver themed tours and talks while creating a welcoming, friendly environment for museum visitors. Docent volunteers enjoy the rewarding experience of connecting people to the objects in the museum. By leading researched tours and fostering positive interactions with visitors, docent volunteers support the museum's mission of educating, inspiring, and delighting visitors. Qualifications needed: Good communication skill; enjoys engaging with diverse people of all ages 10 Week training course over the first year 16 Years and older Standing and occasional bending, sitting, and lifting of 10-20lbs Benefits: All volunteers enjoy benefits such as 20% off in the museum store, special invites to exhibit openings and volunteer appreciation events, first-hand museum experience, a connection to a vibrant volunteer community, and the opportunity to earn a free family membership if you complete 50 hours of volunteer service in one year.

Special events and projects volunteers work on unique tasks in the museum. This position is on an as-needed basis. Projects include office and administrative projects; museum mailings; assisting with special event preparations; greeting visitors or assisting with programs during special events; and other projects as they arise. By helping the museum with these crucial tasks, volunteers support the museum mission and ensure its future. This may include cutting, pasting, stapling, making clip-on buttons, and more. Volunteers in this unique and fun position will be able to engage with the many types of programming available at the museum. Volunteers may also assist with program set-up and tear-down. This position is fundamental to the mission of the museum because it ensures that visitors have a positive experience during programming. The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures preserves and exhibits the largest fine-scale miniature collection in the world and one of the largest toy collections on public display in the United States. The museum opened in 1982 as the Toy and Miniature Museum of Kansas City. Since then, the museum has engaged audiences through special exhibitions, events, and programming.
