Volunteer with the Foster Grandparent Program! Do you want to make a difference in your life and the lives of local children? Are you 55 years old or older? Do you have limited income? Are you willing to serve 15 hours or more per week? Volunteers receive a small stipend to help defray the cost of volunteering. The Foster Grandparent Program enables caring, mature adults, often from their neighborhood, and from limited-income households, to support children and help them advance to the next grade level with their peers. You can be a hero to a child struggling to learn. Foster Grandparents provide individual attention to children with special and/or exceptional needs that are identified by a teacher or staff member. Volunteers serve 15 to 40 hours a week in locations such as schools, Boys and Girls Clubs, daycare centers, or Head Start centers. Volunteers serve in areas of: School Readiness: helping young children enter Kindergarten ready to read Mentoring in Afterschool Programs Elementary Education: Providing guidance in elementary school classrooms with children.
