Families need time to run errands, attend doctors appointments, or just run out for a quick lunch or dinner. You can help by sitting with their hospice family member. No medical experience required. No lifting, no moving patients, no medication to be given just be a presence with our patients. This is a great opportunity for everyone from young adults to retirees. Anyone can do this.

Become An Ohio Living Hospice Volunteer Hospice is a special kind of caring that is person and family centered and seeks to provide support and comfort to those facing a life limiting illness.Volunteers play a large role in this effort by sharing their skills and interests in a manner that enriches the quality of life for those they serve. The federal government also recognizes the importance of volunteers in the delivery of hospice services by requiring that Medicare-approved hospices utilize volunteers from their community.Nationally, about 100,000 people serve as hospice volunteers and give millions of hours of their time to serve terminally ill patients and their families. Senior Independence Hospice celebrates the lives of our patients. We need volunteers to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, holidays or any other special occasions. Can you bring ballooons or deliver a cake to one of our patients? Holidays are fast approaching, we need volunteers to bring cheer to our facility patients that may not have anyone to celebrate with. You can also be a part of our Make it Happen program. This is where we grant special wishes for our patients!

Attention retired nurses, caregivers or caring individuals we need you in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbia Counties to sit with patients while families run errands or just to give them a well deserved rest. Volunteers would be assigned to private homes for this position. No medical duties will be expected. This is just a companion position.

Patient end of life companions would be the special volunteer that would give their time to sit with an actively dying person when family is not able to do so. This volunteer would have to be comfortable sitting with patients when they are going through the very end of their lives. A retired nurse or members of the clergy would be an excellent candidate for this opportunity.
