PURPOSE OF JOB: To support the mission of MADD by registering DUI/DUID offenders to attend court-ordered VIP’s. These Panels are vital in that they demonstrate to offenders the seriousness of their crimes, bringing a human aspect and real perspectives from the victims of impaired driving. DUTIES: Set-up and break down registration area (e.g. tables, chairs, paperwork) Register attendees Work with VIP facilitator to resolve issues both during registration and during the Panel Reconcile VIP funds Respond to VIP Program Manager requests for VIP registration volunteers Reach out to VIP Program Manager if/when you are able to volunteer at a particular Panel TRAINING: VIP registration volunteers are trained before the start of the Panel. First-time volunteers will be required to arrive 10 minutes early to receive training from the VIP facilitator. QUALIFICATIONS: Age 17 or older Reliable transportation to/from panels Able to help move tables and chairs Able to interact with DUI/DUID offenders without judgment Able to read and speak English (For Spanish-language panels: Able to read and speak Spanish) Background check required TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED: VIP are typically held Mon, Tues and Wed evenings. They are held all over the state. Volunteers do not have to live in the Denver Metro Area to participate in this volunteer opportunity. Arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of registration. Remain through the duration of the VIP (typically 3.5 hrs total) unless otherwise discussed with the facilitator. LOCATION: VIP’s are held all over Colorado. MISSION: The mission of Mothers Against Drunk Driving is to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes and prevent underage drinking. TITLE OF POSITION: Court Monitor Intern PURPOSE OF JOB:To support the mission of MADD by observing DUI court cases and collecting data to help identify trends in sentencing and, in turn, support law enforcement, judges, and prosecutors in finding solutions that result in effective justice. DUTIES: Attend DUI misdemeanor court proceedings in person or online and collect relevant data. Submit data to MADD staff within 3 days of attending court. Participate in development training, meetings, events, and program opportunities. Provide feedback to MADD staff to ensure the continued success of the program. TRAINING: Intake interview and orientation. Online training is to be completed individually before the due date. (3 modules). one-on-one training with MADD staff, either in person or virtually. QUALIFICATIONS: Age 18 or older Reliable transportation to/from the courthouse Excellent attention to detail, listening skills and ability to think critically Respect for confidentiality Background check required TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED: Flexible schedule: Volunteers choose dates, and observations are made during courthouse hours. Expect to be at the courthouse based on the judge's time, typically from 8 am to 4 pm on chosen dates. This role will start at the beginning of the fall and spring. Volunteers will be asked to submit the total number of hours they volunteered at the end of each month. LOCATION: MADD Colorado has activated the Court Monitoring Program in over 12 counties in Colorado. We are currently seeking monitors in Mesa County. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Youth Programs needs your help to facilitate our Art for Influence program! MADD's mission is to eliminate drunk driving, fight drugged driving, serve victims of this violent crime, and prevent underage drinking. We have numerous opportunities available to work with students and/or parents, educating them about underage drinking and the dangers of drinking and driving. We also have statewide leadership opportunities open to students who wish to join the Student Leadership Advisory Council of Colorado.
