BJC Hospice is looking for licensed massage therapists and Reiki and Healing Touch practitioners who would like to volunteer their services and time for our adult and pediatric hospice program. Most visits will be to patients in their homes, and occasionally to patients in nursing homes or our in-patient hospice facility, Evelyn's House. Most visits focus on relieving patients' pain or anxiety. Visits may be one-time visits, or the volunteer may visit a patient two to four times a month, depending on what the patient needs. Overall, the time commitment is flexible. Massage therapists must be licensed, and Reiki and Healing Touch practitioners must provide certification or proof of training. Volunteer training will be provided. All BJC HealthCare volunteers must be vaccinated against Covid 19.

Virtual Opportunity
BJC Hospice is looking for volunteers with sewing skills who can make activity "fidget" blankets - small, lap-sized blankets that we often give to patients with dementia . The blankets have different textures and items on them to provide sensory stimulation for patients with restless hands. Items that can go on an activity blanket include ribbons, patches, large buttons, large beads, pieces of fabric that have a lot of texture to them, miniature stuffed animals, etc. It can also be fun to include items like plastic measuring spoons, fasteners or plastic tools, which are great for patients who used to cook or do handyman projects. Examples of the types of items that can go on the blankets are pictured. Patients’ families say they are grateful to have these blankets - they can make all the difference for their loved ones who have busy hands and need something to do. For questions, contact Volunteer coordinator Mary Lindsley at mary.lindsley@bjc.org or 314-792-8151.
