Support from hospice volunteers can make all the difference in patients' lives.

BJC Hospice is seeking compassionate, caring individuals to support terminally ill patients and their families in the Saint Louis, MO, area. This is a great opportunity to do meaningful work that has a significant impact, all while setting your own schedule and choosing your own assignments.

Volunteers support patients who are in their homes, or in nursing homes, through:

  • Companionship visits
  • Respite visits so that caregivers can take a break
  • Running errands
  • Light housekeeping
  • Pet therapy
  • Visits to military veterans by military veterans (We Honor Veterans)
  • Creating life review projects (Lumina)
  • Spiritual care visits
  • Handyman assistance

Volunteers will receive training and ongoing support from the volunteer coordinator and hospice staff. You will not be providing hands-on care, and you will not be assigned to visit patients with contagious infections. New volunteers will take eight hours of training, must be interviewed and background checked, must get a TB test and a flu shot, and must be fully vaccinated against Covid 19.

If you have a heart for helping patients at the end of life, you can start your volunteer application by visiting http://www.bjchospice.org/Volunteers.aspx. For questions, contact Volunteer Coordinator Mary Lindsley at mary.lindsley@bjc.org or 314-792-8151. We’re looking forward to talking with you.
