Evening Child Care (ECC) volunteers can make a significant difference in a child's life by helping them with social, motor, and cognitive skills in a safe, positive environment where children can focus on learning and growing. ECC volunteers serve toddlers, from early walking stages to 4 years old. Volunteer tasks include assisting with story time, circle time, supervising the play yard, and other enrichment activities as instructed by the ECC Coordinator. The minimum age requirement for volunteers is 18 years old.

Homework Enrichment Program Tutors Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 6:30-8:30 _____________________ Volunteer Opportunity Summary: This volunteer position is responsible for tutoring and mentoring the school aged children attending our Homework Enrichment Program. Purpose: The position of Tutor/Mentor helps the school aged children to achieve academically and socially. Your presence and life experiences will provide the children with a positive role model and help us to promote the importance of an education. We appreciate you supporting the children by encouraging them to be engaged in school and the learning process. This position offers the committed volunteer the opportunity to make a positive impact on a child’s life. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direction of the program teacher you will assist the children with their homework, review completed homework, and assist with any planned group activities aimed at improving specific skills and assist in supervising the children during play time. Time Commitment: One shift per week (6:30-8:30pm) for a minimum of three months. It takes time to form meaningful relationships. The children and the volunteer will gain so much more from a stable and consistent schedule. Age Requirement: Minimum age is 18 years old.

Please reach out to us directly for more information. Purpose: BREAKFAST TEAMS Provide a hot breakfast to our residents on a Saturday or Sunday morning. San Jose Family Shelter has a full service kitchen. You may prepare your meal onsite or bring it ready to serve. Typical breakfast dishes: eggs, bacon, ham, fruits, and juice. Other ideas include pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, grits, sausage, French toast etc. Breakfast is served from 7:30am-8:30am. 1 st Saturday of every month 3 rd Saturday of every month 4 th Saturday of every month 5 th Saturday of every month 1 st Sunday of every month 2 nd Sunday of every month 3 rd Sunday of every month 4 th Sunday of every month 5 th Sunday of every month LUNCH TEAMS Provide a hot lunch to our residents on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. San Jose Family Shelter has a full service kitchen. You may prepare your meal onsite or bring it ready to serve. Typical dishes: chili, chicken, pasta, casseroles, pizza, hotdogs, salad, vegetables, bread, rolls or tortillas, etc. Lunch is served from 12:00pm-1:00pm. 5 th Saturday of every month 5 th Sunday of every month DINNER TEAMS Provide a hot dinner to our residents on a Friday and/or a holiday. There are occasional Saturday or Sunday openings as well. San Jose Family Shelter has a full service kitchen. You may prepare your meal onsite, or bring it ready to serve. Typical dishes include: chicken, pasta, casseroles, pizza, roast beef, vegetables, rolls, burritos, dessert, etc. Dinner is served from 5:00pm-6:30pm 5 th Saturday of every month 4 th Sunday of every month 5 th Sunday of every month Commitment: Once a month for 6 to 12 months

Volunteer Opportunity Position Summary: Volunteer shift: 4:30pm to 6:30pm. This volunteer position is responsible for setting up and serving dinner to our resident families. Dinner is served from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. Purpose: The position of Dinner Server allows the resident who may have dinner serving as a chore, to eat with his/her family. Without our volunteer dinner servers, the residents would be required to serve the families as a chore. Thank you for allowing a resident to sit and enjoy dinner with his/her family and for your commitment to our vision of empowering homeless families. Commitment: Once a week for three months
