Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Homework Enrichment Program (HEP) with Family Supportive Housing. This volunteer position is responsible for tutoring and mentoring the school aged children attending HEP. Under the direction of the program teacher you will assist the children with their homework, review completed homework, and assist with any planned group activities aimed at improving specific skills and assist in supervising the children during play time. HEP is held Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6:30pm-8:30pm. We ask HEP volunteers to volunteer 1x each week for at least 3-months. HEP volunteers must be 18 years old to volunteer.
The position of Tutor/Mentor helps the school aged children to achieve academically and socially. Your presence and life experiences will provide the children with a positive role model and help us to promote the importance of an education. We appreciate you supporting the children by encouraging them to be engaged in school and the learning process. This position offers the committed volunteer the opportunity to make a positive impact on a child’s life.

Family Supportive Housing provides temporary shelter and supportive services for homeless famlies in Santa Clara County to empower the families to move out of homelessness to independent, self-sufficient living in our community.
Description
San Jose Family Shelter provides temporary housing for 35 families for up to 90 days. In addition to shelter and meals, the program also provides on-going intensive case management which identifies and responds to the needs of the clients, on-site child care, on-site Head Start, tutoring, computer lab, classes for parents and children, after school activities, clothes closet, job readiness skills, job referrals, housing readiness classes and ousing referrals and assistance are also offered.
