MIM Experience Gallery is a dedicated hands-on space where guests of all ages have the opportunity to play many of the instruments that they have seen in other parts of the museum. Whether playing a Theremin alone or participating in an impromptu drum circle with others, guests can choose how they will spend their time in the Experience Gallery. Assignment description An Experience Gallery Guide is an outgoing, friendly, and enthusiastic individual who provides assistance to guests as they interact with instruments in the Experience Gallery, the hands-on gallery at MIM. You will greet guests as they enter the gallery, provide assistance and instruction on how to play the various instruments and provide some basic information about the instruments. You will also ensure the safety of individuals and the security of the objects. Time Commitment Being a Experience Gallery Guide at MIM is a flexible commitment. A Museum Gallery Guide is an outgoing, friendly and enthusiastic individual who acts as the public face of MIM and works to create a welcoming, accessible, safe, and secure environment. A Gallery Guide greets guests, assists with wayfinding, and provides general interpretive services to Museum guests when stationed in various galleries. They are watchful of the activities around them to ensure the safety of individuals and the security of the objects and exhibits. Duties may include, but are not limited to: - Providing assistance to museum guests by greeting and providing them with directional information (ie: location of café, restrooms, etc). - Responding to frequently asked questions regarding MIM and the various exhibits that you may be stationed in (ie: Asia, USA/Canada, Latin America, Artist, etc). - Working in conjunction with museum security to help protect items in the exhibits Being a Museum Gallery Guide at MIM is a flexible commitment. A Guest Service Guide is a friendly, enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual who acts in support of the Guest Service department in creating a positive guest experience. A Guest Service Guide greets guests, assists with way-finding, and assists with the re-staging of the Museum's Guideport system at the Guest Service desk. They will also assist with Coat Check and the preparation of Will-Call tickets for MIM Music Theater events: Providing assistance to museum guests by greeting and providing them with directional information (ie: location of café, restrooms, etc). Responding to guests' "most asked" questions on MIM's history and policies, general museum questions and Guideport use Providing assistance with Coat Check and Will-Call Assist with the re-staging of the Guideport system by plugging the units into chargers, cleaning headphones and properly storing the units Time Commitment Being a Guest Service Guide at MIM is a flexible commitment. Volunteer Museum Guides are passionate lifelong learners who provide guided tours for school and youth groups. They encourage guests to forge their own connections to MIMs collections and stories through lively, thoughtful discussions. You don’t need a musical or teaching background to apply-training covers everything a guide needs to know! STEP 1: Apply now by going to mim.org/volunteer. STEP 2: Attend an orientation for new volunteers and a meet-and-greet for museum guide candidates. STEP 3: Complete a 5½ week initial training. STEP 4: Lead fun, engaging tours of MIM’s galleries for kids of all ages. Following the training, museum guides commit to a minimum of three tours per month.
