As a veteran yourself, or someone with a vet in the family, you understand the amazing contributions and sacrifices our veterans have made - and the unique challenges they feel at the end of life. Mission Hospice & Home Care is caring for more and more veterans, and we need your help to support them. If you have compassion and the ability to listen deeply without judgment, you can help. We ask our volunteers to visit at least one patient a week. Your volunteer time is flexible, based on your availability and our patients’ schedules. No experience necessary! Bilingual applicants are greatly appreciated. We provide you with all the training and support you need, including a network of other amazing hospice volunteers. You and your pet can offer companionship and comfort to patients with terminal illness. Your visits can help our patients and family members relax, provide emotional support, and offer unconditional love. Once you and your pet are certified, we ask you to spend about an hour a week visiting patients. Dogs, cats, rabbits, and other pets welcome. Join the team at Mission House, a peaceful 6-bedroom hospice house in Redwood City for patients and their families. As a Mission House volunteer, you will provide compassion, dignity, and comfort to people in their last weeks of life. Volunteers sit with and care for our residents: Sit with patients, offering companionship and comfort Help staff with personal care and transfers Help cook and serve meals for patients and families ... and keep the house clean, neat, and beautiful: Run errands, help with housekeeping and laundry Answer the phone, file, and write notes Water and tend the gardens We’ll train you, and you’ll be part of a supportive, caring team. Mission House volunteers work in four-hour shifts, 8am-noon or 4-8pm, seven days a week. We ask volunteers to commit to at least one shift a week, for a minimum of 8 months.
