As a veteran yourself, or someone with a vet in the family, you understand the amazing contributions and sacrifices our veterans have made - and the unique challenges they feel at the end of life. Mission Hospice & Home Care is caring for more and more veterans, and we need your help to support them. If you have compassion and the ability to listen deeply without judgment, you can help. We ask our volunteers to visit at least one patient a week. Your volunteer time is flexible, based on your availability and our patients’ schedules. No experience necessary! We provide you with all the training and support you need, including a network of other amazing hospice volunteers. Many of them say that this is the most meaningful work they’ve done. Mission Hospice & Home Care provides personalized, compassionate end-of-life care for patients and families in San Mateo County and northern Santa Clara Counties. As a direct care volunteer, you will support our hospice patients and their families with weekly visits - in their homes, in nursing homes, or wherever they live. If you are caring, flexible, and a good listener - you can provide important emotional and social support for patients who are living with terminal illness. Whether you are reading a book, running an errand, taking a short walk, or listening to stories, your time will make a very special difference in the lives of your patients and their families.

You and your pet can offer companionship and comfort to patients with terminal illness. Your visits can help our patients and family members relax, provide emotional support, and offer unconditional love. Once you and your pet are certified, we ask you to spend about an hour a week visiting patients. Dogs, cats, rabbits, and other pets welcome. Your volunteer time is flexible, based on your availability and our patients’ schedules. No experience necessary! If you speak Spanish, Tagalog, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Japanese - our patients need you! You can bring your caring, flexible nature, and good listening skills to support patients who are living with terminal illness. Whether you are reading a book, running an errand, taking a short walk, or listening to stories, your time will be very special.
