Big Brothers and Big Sisters is matching up volunteers (Bigs) and children (Littles) to spend 8 hour more hours monthly together based on interests, location, and personality. Bigs will spend one-on-one quality time with the Littles to promote social skills, relationships, and development through experiences and relationship building. Bigs are prohibited from the use of tobacco, alcohol, or drugs in the presence of the Little and must not live with someone who is involved with any illegal activity or drug use. Additionally, overnight stays and over-involvement are not allowed. Bigs will spend time with a child doing free or low-cost activities of mutual interest while fostering creative thinking, social relationship building, and experience. Bigs will need to confer monthly with an assigned staff member to ensure the match is productive, safe, and positive. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay provides both children and mentors the essential tools to develop lifelong, purposeful relationships and serves more than 2,400 children in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk, Pasco, Citrus, Hernando, Sumter, Alachua & Marion counties. Their mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.

This includes cash and credit transactions, intaking and processing donations, maintaining the workspace, basic register functions, and assisting customers. Founded in 1984, the Women’s Resource center continues to assist families in crisis throughout Polk County providing mentoring, financial literacy, job coaching, mental health counseling, emergency utility assistance, housing assistance, and food from their pantry.

Polk's Nature Discovery Center is seeking volunteers as site stewards to assist in landscaping or gardening, maintenance of the exterior and inspections, or assisting in the education station. Landscaping and Gardening Work in a large shade house to weed and propagate native plants Trim grass on the boardwalk Maintain landscape beds Maintain the outdoor classroom area Water, weeding, and planting Maintaining the Exterior Appearance and Inspecting Facility Pressure-wash and clean building exterior Create and maintain our outdoor classroom area Hike the trails and remove trash, debris, and report issues to staff Check buildings, barns, and shade house for issues with doors, lights, insects, etc. Maintain the tour tram's appearance Education Station Volunteer / Education Station Assistant Volunteer Assigned to stations along the trail to talk to visitors about wildlife and conservation Prepare and present educational programs to visitors Assist in leading field studies programs for 3-5 grade classes Research Assistant (Min Age 18) Monitor and research of Florida Species of focus at the time of volunteering Polk's Nature Discovery Center is located at the Circle B Bar Reserve. There are numerous hands-on indoor and outdoor exhibits, picnic facilities, and nature trails, making it a great choice for families.

Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine (LVIM) is seeking volunteers to complete curbside check-in. Curbside Check-in Greeters welcome and screen any patients needing care for anything related to Covid-19. This will involve taking temperatures, distributing hand sanitizer, ensuring masks are worn properly in the clinic and when interacting with staff/volunteers, and asking standard screening questions. Other duties include handing out patient forms, verifying scheduled appointments upon arrival, receiving incoming packages, and providing directions and general information related to LVIM. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, possesses strong customer service skills, adapts well to a fast-paced changing environment, performs well under pressure, and effectively communicates with people in a courteous and tactful manner. This position does involve excessive standing and walking time. LVIM is asking for a commitment of 1 month with a minimum of one shift per week either 8am-12pm or 12pm-4pm on any day Monday through Friday. Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine clinics are community based and provide free healthcare services to uninsured and medically underserved communities. LVIM is led by a few Watson Clinic physicians and the Watson Clinic Foundation and functions primarily by volunteers to meet the healthcare challenges of Lakeland's community in a different way.

The Azinger Family Compassion Center at One More Child is in need of a volunteer desk attendant. The desk attendant is responsible for answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, and providing excellent hospitality to Compassion Center guests. Additionally, this volunteer will help with processing donations and resources dropped off at the Compassion Center. The ideal candidate is a friendly face with a positive attitude. The center is helpful to children and families in the area who are experiencing struggles. Your face will be one of the first faces they see. A volunteer will be needed any day(s) Monday through Friday 2:30pm to 4:30pm. Florida Baptist Children’s Homes strives to provide Christ-centered services to vulnerable children and struggling families. One More Child provides career workshops, financial literacy workshops, parenting workshops, and more for individuals striving to take the next step for their children.
