Internship, Environmental Sciences - Polk's Nature Discovery Center

As an Intern with Polk County's Nature Discovery Center, located conveniently between Lakeland and Winter Haven, Florida (off of South State Road 540, between US Hwy 98 and Thornhill Road); you are provided with a diverse combination of experience opportunities related to the specialties of Environmental Education and serving as a Field Technician.

Environmental Education experiences include: assisting with visiting elementary (primarily) school groups, creating exciting hands-on curriculum design to be utilized with elementary students, and providing environmental education presentations/information to the general public.

Field Technician experiences include: assisting with rare species and habitat monitoring, learning basic land management techniques such as treating invasive species - prescribed fire, and general stewardship of environmental lands.

Assignment length is for a semester and we are currently recruiting for the remainder of the Spring and upcoming Summer Semesters. Choose a minimum of any two days falling within our operational schedule of Tuesday-Saturday. Serve a minimum of 4 hours per day of service and a limit of 8 hrs/day. Hours of operation are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Internship is open for college students who have taken Basic Biology, have an eagerness to learn, and a willingness to work outdoors. Must be able to hike a minimum of 3 miles and have or obtain a Florida Driver's License.
