Nonprofit (Probono) Attorney About Mentor A Promise: Mentor A Promise, Inc. (the "MAP") is a non-profit organization, and our mission is to provide socio-emotional learning, academic support, and mentorship to students in temporary housing and facing housing instability. We partner with family temporary housing sites across New York, educational institutions, and community organizations to create a strong support network for young people experiencing homelessness, helping them overcome challenges and forge their own path to success. Position Overview: As an Attorney, you will be play a very important role in insuring MAP’s compliance with federal, state, and county regulations. Key Responsibilities: · Manage the development of the legal team for MAP · Supervise law student interns, fellows, volunteers and consultants ensuring high-quality case management and strategic advocacy · Contribute to short and long-term organizational planning and strategy · Serve as a trusted sounding board for leadership, providing perspective and strategic advice · Identify areas of inefficiencies or gaps in MAP’s office and create systems, processes and workflows to address Position Requirements: · Experience working in nonprofit or passion to work with nonprofit organizations · Resourceful problem solver with strong analytical skills to diagnose, explain, and fix issues · Commitment to handling sensitive information and plans with discretion and confidentiality · Ability to schedule, assign and manage work and resolve problems as needed Desired Qualifications: · Effective communication with people from various backgrounds, identities, experiences, and positions · Highly organized, takes initiative, and has meticulous attention to detail · Ability to take responsibility for multiple varied tasks, including short-notice requests, and manage own time Apply Now! Position Overview: As a Mentor, you will be a positive role model, advocate, and resource for our students, fostering an environment of inclusivity, empowerment, and mutual support. Key Responsibilities: · Help guide our students on their journey to self-awareness in and out of the classroom · Assist in identifying students’ academic challenges · Inspire our students to develop a love of reading and the English language through literacy activities · Inspire our students to develop a love of math by using workbooks and assisting with math homework · Work in small groups or one-on-one to help our students increase their competence in core socio-emotional learning skills and responsible decision-making · Guide our students on their journey to self-awareness and social awareness both in and out of the classroom Position Requirements: · Must be 18 years of age or older · Must be local to the NYC area to volunteer in person · Must be willing to undergo a background check and training · Must be willing to commit to a minimum of one (1) hour per week for a period of six (6) months Desired Qualifications: · Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for making a difference · Strong organizational and communication skills · Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously Apply Now! Position Overview: As an Art Therapy Mentor, you will play a key role in advancing our work. You will help us provide Art as a vehicle to self expression. Key Responsibilities: · Understand and promote MAP’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures. · Work directly with our students between the ages of 5-12 who have witnessed domestic violence, suffered from family violence and provide expressive art and creative play · Participate in community meetings, forums, trainings, and collaborations as required. Position Requirements: · Knowledge of community risk factors such as homelessness, intimate partner violence, and substance use · Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills · Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality · Experience working with children affected by trauma, especially through play and art Desired Qualifications: · Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to handle communications tactfully and professionally with a high attention to detail and warmth · Awareness of, and strategies for coping with stress, and or vicarious trauma Apply Now!
