Description of position: Join the volunteer team for the Northwest Oregon District (Bureau of Land Management). Northwest Oregon District strives to find motivated individuals looking to provide better opportunities for the public. From the east to west the District stretches from the crest of the Cascades to the Pacific Ocean. The District manages its forest for recreation, wildlife, lumber production, and more. Sightseeing, camping, hiking, boating, hunting, fishing, cutting firewood, and collecting mushrooms are just a few of the activities the public enjoys on BLM lands. Clay Clay Creek Recreation Site is nestled in the Coast Range of Oregon between Eugene and the Oregon coast at an elevation of 436-492 feet. Located at the confluence of Clay Creek and the Siuslaw River, this recreation site offers a wealth of activities including forest hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing, picnicking, and camping. The Springfield Office of the Northwest Oregon District of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) manages the Clay Creek Recreation Site. Clay Creek offers 21 individual campsites to accommodate 32 feet of RV, truck and trailer, or tents. Most sites contain fire ring, barbeque grill, picnic table, and tent pad. In addition, the site contains vault toilets, River access for swimming, individual picnic sites, a children’s play area, horseshoe pits, potable water, volleyball area (bring your net and ball), and a ball field. We are looking for a couple or an individual to serve as campground host at Whittaker Creek Recreation Site. The position is for a minimum of two months (May 30 th through September 30 th ) with the possibility of being extended through the full season. The host site has an RV pad, picnic area, fire ring, sewer hookup and water available. We do not have power,phone or internet at this time. The Judith Landing campground host will provide visitor information, conduct area monitoring, provide a management presence, perform maintenance and janitorial duties, and represent the BLM. Judith Landing is a popular site open 5/15-10/15 within Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument for launching watercraft, as well as camping, picnicking and fishing. The campground features eight first-come, first serve campsites. Duties: Hosting duties include but are not limited to: -Daily campground fee compliance, campsite maintenance duties -Monitoring facilities and campground for visitor security and potential safety hazards -Reporting to staff when repairs are needed or when incidents occur -Daily interactions with visitors, including answering questions regarding area recreational opportunities, and informing visitors of rules and regulations within the campground -Conducting BLM visitor surveys with visitors Maintenance duties include routine bathroom cleaning, campsite cleanup (trash pick-up, fire ring cleaning), grass mowing and other basic maintenance tasks. All tools needed are provided by the BLM. Location Info: This position is relatively remote, located 45 minutes from nearest town (Winifred or Big Sandy) with basic services (gas, grocery). It is 80 minutes away from Fort Benton or Lewistown that each offer more expanded services (hospital, shopping). Located roughly halfway along the Upper Missouri Wild & Scenic River, this is the primary location that the public and outfitted groups take out from the river. Our Field Office is home to many natural wonders including the Alabama Hills National Scenic Area, the bouldering hotspot of the Volcanic Tablelands and Inyo Mountains Wilderness. Join us as an integral member of the recreation and visitor services team on the Bishop Field Office. Be apart of our team and share the benefits of outdoor recreation and living at Tuttle Creek Campground. We are seeking campground hosts to represent the BLM in a professional and courteous manner. Hosts are often the first BLM representative that guests will encounter. They interact regularly with the public during the day and need to be available to visitors. We expect our hosts to set a positive example by maintaining a neat, clean, and organized campsite area. Serving as a campground host provides an opportunity to be immersed in one of the most quintessential recreation experiences in America. Hosts are there to explain campground rules, monitor occupancy, and to help keep the campground clean. Campground hosts are responsible for daily cleaning of campground restrooms and assist BLM staff with other campground facilities. Maintenance responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Cleaning restrooms Picking up trash in the campground and fire rings removing invasive weeds Hosts perform daily responsibilities independently without direct supervision. It is necessary for the camp host to learn the rules and regulations of the recreation area including campgrounds, day use sites, and the general recreation area. Camp hosts explain regulations pertaining to the campground, however, camp hosts will not be required to handle any law enforcement issues. BLM will provide the host with a volunteer uniform. They will have a host site within the campground. There are currently no hookups available at the host sites. The host will have access to use a BLM e bike to perform duties within the campground. Job / Duties include but are not limited to: Completed background investigation paperwork and fingerprints are required three weeks before report date. Greet visitors and provide information regarding directions, nearby services, use of facilities, fee payment, campground regulations, etc. Perform tasks such as cleaning bathrooms and maintaining their cleanliness daily, restocking bathroom supplies (toilet paper, hand sanitizer) throughout the day, cleaning fire rings, and picking up/ transferring trash bags and litter. Inspect and clean campsites after each occupation and remove all trash, keep the entire campground clean and picked up, and keep picnic areas, day-use areas, parking lots, and trails clean and trash-free. Patrol the campground to encourage but not enforce compliance with rules and regulations pertaining to parking, campfires, noise levels, sanitation, and safety. Keep information kiosk and brochure racks tidy and stocked and notify Recreation staff when more brochures and camping permits are needed. Post "Campground Full" sign at entrance when at capacity. Assist BLM as a fee collection witness at the request of BLM staff. Notify BLM staff when fee tubes need to be swapped out, Camp Hosts are not permitted to handle money or to make change for campers. Records incidents, including illegal activities, vandalism, etc., and notifies supervisor or the Law Enforcement Dispatch as soon as possible. Time Commitment: The campground high use season is from October 1 through May 1 annually. The day use site remains open throughout the year. The actual number of days and hours worked per day is flexible and depends on level of public visitation. Volunteers will be expected to work on weekends since this is the peak of activity. Camp Hosts are expected to commit to the full time frame. On Duty / Off Duty and Working Hours: Since this is a remote site and very minimal direct supervision is provided, the volunteer will be considered on duty each day including holidays. Normal working hours are 0700 until 1600, although the volunteer is not expected to work during this entire period. Routine maintenance activities generally can be completed in 2-3 hours per day. Volunteer is not considered to be on duty during trips to town for groceries, mail, or time off. Days off should be scheduled during the middle of the week (Tuesday - Thursday) since the peak of visitor activity occurs from Friday through Monday. Other days off may be arranged, as needed, through the supervisor. Work Environment: The Painted Rock Campground / Petroglyph Day Use Site sits at an elevation of 150 feet, approximately 90 miles southwest of Phoenix, AZ and 26 miles west of Gila Bend, AZ. The site is EXTREMELY REMOTE & ISOLATED where cell phone coverage can be unreliable depending upon the carrier. The Ramada's are available for group activities. The nearest grocery store is about a 2-hour drive in Buckeye, AZ. The nearest hardware store, propane, gas station, dump station and telephone are located in Gila Bend, AZ. There is a small medical facility located in Gila Bend, but the nearest major medical facility is in Buckeye, AZ. Emergency medical assistance can be summoned by calling 911 or the BLM Law Enforcement Dispatch Center. The volunteer will have the opportunity to meet interesting and friendly visitors, as well as, gain insight into the BLM’s natural resource and recreation programs. Campground host will serve as a positive public representative of the BLM to the visiting/recreating public. The host will provide visitor services at developed Recreation Sites. Duties include visitor assistance such as answering questions about recreation opportunities in the local area, natural resources of the area, navigating roads in the area, or campground rules and policies. The host performs light maintenance such as cleaning and restocking toilets, cleaning throughout the Recreation Site, collecting trash and garbage, light painting, maintaining signs and bulletin boards, encourage fee compliance, and recording visitor fee information. The host also responds to visitor problems or complaints and works to resolve the problem, or contacts the appropriate resource to resolve the situation, as needed. This is a live in position at the Recreation Site. The host must have their own self-contained recreational vehicle to live in while on duty. Camp host sites include electrical, water and septic hook ups. Closest amenities are in Bonanza, Oregon located approximately 20 miles west. Gerber is set on a vast plateau in the high desert about one hour’s drive east of Klamath Falls, Oregon. Mountain ridges and scattered Ponderosa Pine forests add variety and texture to the area. Gerber offers opportunities for camping, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking, along with access to 100,000 acres of backcountry suitable for exploring, hunting, wildlife viewing, and scenic OHV driving. Developed campsites are available at Gerber North and South Campgrounds. The area also offers primitive campsites, a horse camp, and a day-use area as well as two boat ramps. We ask that host commit to being at the site from early May through the end of September. The number of hours worked daily will very but 4 hours per day should be expected. Host will be expected to be on duty Thursday-Tuesday. Lodging or camp rate reimbursement, at the rate of $38 per day on duty, may be provided to the volunteer for the convenience of BLM. The host will be reimbursed for scheduled workdays, as well as extra workdays required for training or holiday work. BLM will reimburse the host for the use of their private vehicle, to commute round trip once per week between their assigned Recreation Site and their local residence or Klamath Falls if residence is out of the local area, and for other required work-related trips, at the rate of $0.14 per mile. Couples will be considered, and both will receive daily reimbursement but only one mileage reimbursement will be received.
