Oregon. Volunteer couples needed for BLM (federal) day-use park, Wildwood Recreation Site, 40 mi. east of Portland near Mt. Hood, along the Wild and Scenic Salmon River. Duties for summer season (April thru Oct.) include park upkeep, maintenance, RR cleaning/stocking, entrance booth operation, and information/visitor services. Openings for 120-180 days (negotiable). Work is flexible but generally 24 hrs. per wk., 4 days on 3 off (together). Compensation includes FHU, propane, free laundry, golf cart, Internet access, and $9.50/day. The campground host will serve as the official BLM representative in the campground. He/she greets visitors, provides information to the public, and helps with campground management. Daily tasks include but are not limited to ensuring visitor compliance with rules and regulations, monitoring daily campground fee compliance, cleaning and stocking restrooms, picking up litter, and performing light maintenance tasks. The campground host is expected to be committed to their duties at the campground and be available during daytime and weekend hours, therefore outside work or existing jobs are not permitted while being a host for BLM. The host will receive a $25 per day reimbursement. Couples are allowed to be campground hosts, but they will be reimbursed as a single person. The Camp Host site has electric, water, and sewage hookups. Campers have access to potable water, flush toilets, and showers. There are 23 sites. All sites are first-come-first-serve. No reservations. Popular with fisherman and pleasure boaters alike, this clear, cold section of the river is world famous for its fly fishing. Paddlers enjoy the narrow valley with Ponderosa Pine, Douglas fir, Oaks, and Madrone trees coating the walls of the canyons. If you would like more adrenaline rush, the waters below Pigeon Point rage at class III-V for white water enthusiasts. Those interested in a more relaxing experience can enjoy the abundant camping options in the area or head for the trail with your friends, horses, or dog. If you would like to stay at the river's edge, you can always swim, fish or do a little gold panning. The river can be accessed from many locations along this stretch of the Trinity River. The Judith Landing campground host will provide visitor information, conduct monitoring, provide a management presence, perform maintenance and janitorial duties, and represent the BLM at project locations. Hosting duties include but are not limited to, daily campground fee compliance, thorough routine bathroom cleaning and monitoring, monitoring facilities and campground for visitor security, cleanliness issues and potential safety hazards, light maintenance duties, routine daily trash pickup throughout the campground, routine fire-ring monitoring and cleaning, daily interactions with visitors, including answering questions regarding area recreational opportunities, and informing visitors of rules and regulations within the campground, reporting to staff when repairs are needed or when incidents occur, and other duties as assigned. Requirements Working days are flexible and can be accommodated, but we will require three days a week, which will total to 24 hours a week. Please list THREE references who know you well and can attest to your character. Please do not list family members as references. Ideally, we would like someone who can volunteer all season (May-October). Overview and Duties Pompeys Pillar National Monument is located along the banks of the Yellowstone River and is the only surviving marker along the Lewis and Clark Trail. Visitors can ascend the steps to the signature that was left behind by William Clark, or ascend to the top of the Pillar for a panoramic view of the area. As an interpretation site host, your duties will consist of: Providing interpretive programs, talks, or tours Interacting with the public to provide a positive experience Assisting with special events at the site Ensuring the visitor center is kept clean and tidy The season starts on May 1st and runs until October 1st. The gates to the site are open from 8:30-5:00 and the interpretation center is open from 9:00-4:00. Your typical day would begin at 8:30AM and end at 5:00PM, with the day broken up into different tasks. Training will be provided, as well as all necessary clothing and materials. Site Accommodations We have spaces to accommodate campers or RVs, with two 50 AMP ports and five 30 AMP ports. There is also a communal fridge/freezer and a washing machine and dryer on site. We do NOT have wifi at the site. Nearby Amenities Pompeys Pillar National Monument is located 30 miles east of Billings, MT. Billings has a population of 180,000 and offers a variety of grocery stores, restaurants, and forms of entertainment. 10 miles west of PPNM is the town of Worden, which has a grocery store, post office, and gas station. You will also find several state parks and scenic areas that are only a short drive from the site.
