2024 Gerber Recreation Area Campground Host

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management

Campground host will serve as a positive public representative of the BLM to the visiting/recreating public. The host will provide visitor services at developed Recreation Sites. Duties include visitor assistance such as answering questions about recreation opportunities in the local area, natural resources of the area, navigating roads in the area, or campground rules and policies. The host performs light maintenance such as cleaning and restocking toilets, cleaning throughout the Recreation Site, collecting trash and garbage, light painting, maintaining signs and bulletin boards, encourage fee compliance, and recording visitor fee information. The host also responds to visitor problems or complaints and works to resolve the problem, or contacts the appropriate resource to resolve the situation, as needed. This is a live in position at the Recreation Site. The host must have their own self-contained recreational vehicle to live in while on duty. Camp host sites include electrical, water and septic hook ups. Closest amenities are in Bonanza, Oregon located approximately 20 miles west.

Gerber is set on a vast plateau in the high desert about one hour’s drive east of Klamath Falls, Oregon. Mountain ridges and scattered Ponderosa Pine forests add variety and texture to the area. Gerber offers opportunities for camping, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking, along with access to 100,000 acres of backcountry suitable for exploring, hunting, wildlife viewing, and scenic OHV driving. Developed campsites are available at Gerber North and South Campgrounds. The area also offers primitive campsites, a horse camp, and a day-use area as well as two boat ramps.

We ask that host commit to being at the site from early May through the end of September. The number of hours worked daily will very but 4 hours per day should be expected. Host will be expected to be on duty Thursday-Tuesday. Lodging or camp rate reimbursement, at the rate of $38 per day on duty, may be provided to the volunteer for the convenience of BLM. The host will be reimbursed for scheduled workdays, as well as extra workdays required for training or holiday work. BLM will reimburse the host for the use of their private vehicle, to commute round trip once per week between their assigned Recreation Site and their local residence or Klamath Falls if residence is out of the local area, and for other required work-related trips, at the rate of $0.14 per mile. Couples will be considered, and both will receive daily reimbursement but only one mileage reimbursement will be received.

About U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management

Location:

760 Horizon Drive, Grand Junction, CO 81506, US

Mission Statement

The Bureau of Land Management's mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

Description

The BLM manages 245 million acres of public lands and 700 million acres of mineral estate. These public lands and subsurface acres are integral to the lives and livelihoods of communities and families across the country. We promote multiple-use on public lands to maximize opportunities for commercial, recreational, and conservation activities. This promotes healthy and productive public lands that create jobs in local communities while supporting traditional land uses such as responsible energy development, timber harvesting, grazing, and recreation, including hunting and fishing.
