Compassionate connections are vital in fostering a genuinely inclusive and mutually beneficial community. Research confirms the profound impact of strengthening community ties, enhancing mental well-being, happiness, education, economic prosperity, and reducing isolation and crime. NGA is focused primarily in the London boroughs of Hackney and Islington. Fundraising Volunteers play a crucial role in supporting this mission by securing essential financial resources through grant writing, and donor engagement. Volunteers should have the following skills- Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or donor relations and/or appropriate transferable skills Ability to write fluently, persuasively and professionally in English. Ability to research and identify potential funding sources. Organisational skills and attention to detail. Passion for community building and social inclusion. Proficiency with IT, including internet searching, email, Google Workspace, and basic database understanding. Comfort with phone and video communication and working productively with both external and internal parties. Capacity to weigh complex factors in decision-making. Creativity in developing fundraising campaigns and events. Volunteers will work as part of a team to- Develop and implement effective fundraising strategies and campaigns. Research and pursue grant opportunities and other funding sources. Build and maintain relationships with donors and supporters. Organise fundraising events and activities. Track and report on fundraising progress and outcomes.

ABOUT THE PROJECT The 'What Are They Thinking?' (WATT) project fights bias and builds understanding a compassion. It works by bringing together people to listen to people who are different from themselves share about their own lived experiences. Each session brings together two groups with significant differences and imperfect understanding of each other. Some examples are Black/White, Male/Female, Theist/Atheist, Immigrant/Native UK, and Straight/Gay. Each group has a turn to listen and a turn to speak. The speaking amongst each group is in response to questions from the facilitators or from the listening group. Later, each group has a chance to process on their own and then reconvene with the other group to reflect on their experiences and it's impacts. We have found this to be a remarkably powerful format. Most participants find it to change their understanding and perspectives. The project is currently being run on-line and we may wish to expand to include in-person sessions in the future. We also plan to add an exciting new component to WATT: inviting participants to join a 'WATT Community' to explore and participate further in the individual and communal work of fighting bias and building understanding and compassion across difference. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES WATT needs volunteers to help with Session organising/planning Participant communication and support Session facilitation WATT community creation and support Resource development In-person event development and support VOLUNTEER SPECIFICATION These skills and attributes are required of all WATT volunteers: Compassionate non-judgemental outlook on people different from oneself Organised and responsible working habits Able to commit to the volunteering role for at least 6 months and at least 2.5 hours per week Works well in a team environment Willing to try and learn new things The variety of types of work involved in WATT require a variety of strengths. These skills and attributes are required on the team but not every volunteer must have all of them: Comfortable with reaching out to organisations, groups, businesses, local government, etc. to represent and promote WATT Facilitation skills Conflict reduction and transformation skills An understanding of the psychology and sociology of individual and group responses to difference Skills in leading online workshops Research skills especially with regard to differences in how different types of people and groups are treated by governments, law enforcement, business, etc Skills in online group moderation and facilitation Skills in building online communities Persuasive writing

Your role will be to help Bridging Beyond make that difference by promoting the mission, emphasising the importance of community, compassion, and fostering cross-difference understanding. You will guide people and organisations to projects, groups, and events that best suit their needs and goals through a variety of digital means, including social media, web, and paid ads on Google, Facebook, and other platforms. As a Social Media & Digital Marketing Volunteer, you will be part of the Communications and Marketing Team, and the following skills would be beneficial to the work: Proficiency in a wide variety of digital marketing tools. Ability to create and manage engaging content (text, images, videos) for social media, websites, and email newsletters. Experience in managing social media accounts and implementing strategies to increase engagement and followers. Skill in designing and managing paid advertising campaigns on platforms like Google Ads and Facebook Ads. Ability to optimise ad performance through analysis and adjustments. Strong communication skills for interacting with a diverse community online. Responsible, detail-oriented, and flexible. Extensive and varied experience with digital marketing. The Communications and Marketing Team will work together to: Develop and execute comprehensive digital marketing strategies. Produce high-quality, engaging content that resonates with the community. Manage and grow Bridging Beyond’s presence on various social media platforms. Analyse and optimise the performance of digital marketing campaigns. Foster a positive and inclusive online community. Communicate the mission and values of Bridging Beyond clearly and compellingly. Adapt to the needs of the community and the organisation flexibly.

As a Workshop Facilitator for Bridging Beyond , you will be responsible for leading workshops that promote empathy and understanding between individuals from different backgrounds and perspectives. Your role will involve guiding participants through discussions and interactive exercises, helping them engage with one another in ways that challenge assumptions and build connections. In addition to facilitating workshops, you may choose to contribute to the development and customisation of workshops to suit specific audiences, time constraints, or physical settings. Workshops typically last between 1.5 to 2 hours and may be held on weekdays or weekends, either during the day or in the evenings, providing flexible opportunities for involvement. This role offers a meaningful way to support Bridging Beyond’s mission of building stronger, more inclusive communities through dialogue and shared understanding. At the heart of Bridging Beyond’s work is the facilitation of workshops designed to foster empathy and understanding between individuals from different backgrounds. These workshops offer participants the opportunity to engage with people they might otherwise hold negative judgments or suspicions about, creating a space for meaningful dialogue and personal growth. By participating in these experiences, individuals often find their perspectives shifting-not only toward specific individuals but also toward entire communities. This work is vital to addressing the divisions and conflicts that exist in society. By promoting care, trust, and understanding, we take important steps toward reducing hatred and division, helping build more cohesive and peaceful communities on both personal and national levels. However, there will be opportunities to further develop and refine your facilitation skills through the role. Organisational Skills - You can manage time effectively during workshops, ensuring that discussions and activities stay on track. Ability to travel to location of event: Volunteers will need to travel independently to the location of the event. Expenses can be provided in line with our policies. Time Commitment: Volunteers are asked to commit to at least six months with NGA, dedicating an average of 2-4 hours per week to facilitation and related activities and team communication. We also appreciate flexibility, as there may be periods of increased activity when more time is needed to complete important tasks.
