Both locally and globally, our world is in the grip of polarisation, division, and suspicion. Newington Green Alliance is a UK registered charity working to replace these ills with compassion, understanding, and connection. Through events and other projects, we people connect with and understand one another across all the many ethnic, cultural, class, and other differences in the areas of Hackney and Islington surrounding Newington Green, London.

THIS ROLE

We are seeking people to join our volunteer fundraising team where you will learn from practiced fundraisers and gain experience with developing and writing bids for grant funding. You will gain valuable skills in this role at the same time as you help NGA to do more and more effective work reducing polarisation and suspicion and increasing understanding and compassion.

We are seeking both experienced volunteers and also those with an interest in fundraising and the sorts of skills that could help them to become capable fundraisers. We are dedicated to helping our volunteers develop the kinds of skills and experience that will help them in their lives and careers.

SKILLS

Applicants inexperienced in fundraising applying for this role should...

  • Have good facility with IT use including internet searching, email, use of Google Workspace, and a basic understanding of databases
  • Feel comfortable making calls and connecting and working productively with representatives of outside organisations
  • Be able to write fluently and professionally in English
  • Have the ability to write persuasively
  • Be capable at weighing a variety of complex factors in making choices
  • Have excellent organisational skills to keep track of a variety of different types of information
  • Have the ability to devote at least 3 hours per week for at least 6 months to their volunteering work
  • Be responsible team members who meet deadlines and attend meetings regularly and on time.

NGA became a UK registered charity (1190473) in July 2020. We are an all-volunteer organisation with over 100 volunteers and a wide range or projects geared toward building connection and relationship across all the many differences in the Newington Green area of London.
