Students who are strong readers by the end of third grade are positioned to be strong learners the rest of their lives. But in the United States, more than half our students reach fourth grade without learning to read proficiently. Together, we can change this! The amazing thing about our program - we train ordinary people to make an incredible impact as tutors. Serve in a school full-time or part-time, working one-on-one with students who need extra help with reading. Conduct tutoring sessions that are 20 minutes long, so each student is tutored 100 minutes per week. Track student progress and regularly meet with coaches to assess data and work toward learning targets.

Students who master foundational math skills are prepared for greater challenges in high school, college and the workplace. By combining the people power of AmeriCorps with cutting-edge math research, Math Corps helps make sure every student has a chance to succeed. This position will be in person, on a school campus, during school hours, Monday- Friday, from August 26, 2024 - June 20, 2025, 27.5 - 35 hours per week.

Thousands of California kids need help in reading and math and you can make all the difference. Offer your time and talent as a tutor and be more for students in schools in California. As an Early Learning Tutor, you’ll help Pre-K students become better learners. With great training and on-site coaching, we’ll prepare you to work one-on-one, in small groups, or with the entire class to help kids develop their learning skills and confidence! Students make the most progress when you are there, so our tutors serve in person, during school hours, and are needed for the whole school year. We are currently recruiting for the 2024-25 school year. Service will begin in August, 2024. Service commitment lasts through June, 2025. This is an AmeriCorps member position with California Reading and Math Corps. Although the earnings are modest, the rewards are great! You’ll join an amazing group of California tutors, determined to help students be more.
