The Next IT Girl is a national 501(c)(3) technology education non-profit our mission is dedicated to educate young women of color across the nation discover, pursue, and succeed in technology-related careers. We are seeking volunteers to assist us with our programs and services in the Charleston area beginning in April - November. This opportunity is based in metro Charleston with service hours being two hour block shifts. Volunteers will assist in facilitating technical programs with our students in local schools. All of our programs and services are centered around technology concepts. Technical and non-technical volunteers welcome! Background check and volunteer training is required.

OVERVIEW The Community Outreach Coordinator will be an integral member of The Next IT Girl to create and execute services through community-based outreach. The Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for the planning, marketing, and delivery of community program-based activities and events to increase representation of the organization in local chapter cities. Through outreach activities the Community Outreach Coordinator will identify new community engagement opportunities, build relationships with community partners, and employers, and identify referrals of those who would benefit from our representation. This position requires evening and weekend work as frequent as 2-3 times a week. GOALS Develop and implement outreach strategies to engage with local communities, schools, and organizations within our chapter cities of Atlanta, Charleston, and Indianapolis Establish and maintain partnerships with schools, community organizations, and industry stakeholders to enhance program visibility and impact. SPECIFICATIONS Working with the Executive Director, Chapter Leads, and Program Director, you will provide support and expertise on opportunities to enhance the organization with visibility and impact across our chapter cities. RESPONSIBILITIES Plan, implement and manage education projects and community outreach activities to teach the students, community, and stakeholders about the importance of technology Proactively identifies opportunities to build relationships and establish dialogue with the community Supports the Executive Director in developing relationships with external stakeholders and other entities in an effort to build TNIG brand Develops and implements a direct referral system that provides community agencies and organizations a mechanism for referring communities who may have technology education concerns Develops promotional opportunities for the dissemination of The Next IT Girl news and events Works closely to launch new initiatives with appropriate internal and external stakeholders Conducts appropriate research and makes recommendations regarding appropriate external partnerships Develops linkages and relationships that enhance the quality of engagement with youth and the local communities, such as colleges, churches, non-profits, social organizations and associations Prepares monthly events and reports on engagement activities and experiential events Identifies opportunities to insert TNIG in existing community events Develops and maintains a system for managing and responding to community needs, issues, and priorities Occasional travel pertaining to outreach efforts QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in a related field (education, communications, social work, etc.). Previous experience in community outreach or program coordination. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with the local community and educational landscape. Passion for promoting diversity and inclusion in the technology field. Adapt at using various applications including databases, spreadsheets, report writing, project management, operation platforms, word processing, and presentation creation/editing including office software such as Google Suite. Ability to analyze problems and determine corrective measures Work closely with the Executive Director to ensure the successful planning, execution, and evaluation of technology education initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Strategy: Work as part of the administrative leadership team overseeing the overall administrative management of multiple programs within the organization. By supporting broader career options and encouraging all technical interests we provide the support network they need to pursue and successfully excel in the technology industry. Position Overview A TNIG chapter leader provides a foundation in a local community through our 3 key areas; Educating, Mentoring, and Advancing. Chapters are made up individuals devoted to giving back at the community level. Chapters are semi-autonomous all working independently, but still in conjunction with each other in support of the TNIG mission. Chapter leaders facilitate beneficial events that engage their local community as a whole. Chapters work closely with local businesses, organizations, and companies to help ensure continued growth and sustainability of TNIG. Each chapter is different, made up and led by enthusiastic individuals, but supported by the resources and leadership of TNIG core leaders. This ensures that each chapter aligns with TNIG mission. The Chapter Leader is essential to the success of each chapter. They provide structure and direction in the planning and execution of internal and external events and encourage engagement with community and tech leaders in the chapter cities. The Chapter Leader ensures that their chapter is actively hosting a variety of events that appeal to our target audience and align with mission and values. The Chapter Leader pursues partnerships with local businesses and organizations, and acts as a representative of The Next IT Girl to their community. They are dedicated to the growth and advancement of The Next IT Girl community. The chapter leader is an enthusiastic individual with a technical background who is both connected with the tech community locally and passionate about introducing more girls to computing concepts.
